Update or something...

Dec 19, 2008

I've not posted in quite some time.
I think I've got lost in the happiness of the successes I've gained so far, but lost sight of the goals that I could reach if I kept it up.

I used to be all hardcore about following the "rules".  I can't say that I've completely jumped off the bridge, but I'm snacking now.  I keep trying to say (and defend my actions)  that what I'm doing isn't that bad, or that "because I cycle alot that it's ok".

So I feel like I'm back to where I started, except that I weigh less.  90lbs less, but I should be like 150lbs less.
I feel pretty good, doc says my vitamins and all my "numbers" are great.  But the scale hasn't moved in almost 6 months now.

Until the cold set in a few weeks ago, I was commuting back and forth to work on bicycle.  About 15mph per day.  Then I started riding longer on the weekends.  Most recently, last saturday (before support group meeting) I got up and went out riding.  Put in 15 miles before getting home at 7:30am.  Yah, it was a bit chilly, but damn riding feels good.  Although, my toes got really cold.  Everything else was good.

So anyway, now I'm not sure how to get myself back on track.  The holidays are screwing with me at all.  My bad habit (Nature Valley Oats N' Honey Granola Bars) started in August.  The only good part is that I've not gained any weight.  I've hovered at 230lbs for the entire time.

I'm now getting depressed or something like that about it all.  I feel like I've screwed up again...same scenario that I started my WLS experience out with.  One diet after another... screwing them up.  I know/knew this is a lifestyle change and I've done most of it.  But not enough I guess.

How to find my focus again?  How to get back to working toward my goal?

that's what i'm seeking out now.

Time time time

Jun 05, 2008

Time's not been nice to me lately.
Never enough time.

Weight loss is still slow, but going well.  Down to 232.  Walking alot at lunch (my full 1hr lunch ~ 3miles or so)

I'll post more once I get into my new house =)

4 weeks out

Mar 23, 2008

Doing well.  All in all, things are great.  I'm eating fine, clothes are getting baggy and had to pick up a few new pants (using clearance sales on right now).  Gone from a 44-46 waist to a 40.
I've not actually got measured or tried on different dress shirts yet.  I'm kinda ignoring the recent changes because I don't want to get excited and spend alot of money on new clothes only to be able to wear them for a short time.

I enjoy walking, but I have found myself not going to walk mainly because I skip my lunch.  I'm battling being a work-a-holic maybe.   I've kinda always been like that, but it's a little different now that I need to walk.  The other issue is shoes.  I try to look nice at work which means wearing dress shoes.  Ok.. let's face it... walking miles in dress shoes sucks.  I know... easy fix... just need to take a pair of walking shoes with me and change before and after... but even that annoys me for some reason.  It's just a matter of changing my ways and getting into that stride.

1 week out

Feb 25, 2008

Everything's doing pretty well.
Few issues that I'm dealing with:
1) numbness in my left thigh
2) rash on my torso, mainly where drain tube was
3) getting used to all this

Besides those... the Shasta Regional Medical Center nurses that cared for me are great, but let me tell you... they are very strict in what you do and don't do.  It's awesome.  I totally appreciated their concern and attentiveness.

Me?  Oh... Lost about 40lbs since my surgeon consult.
Was 319 at consult.
290 day of surgery
283 today.

Got to add in Protein shakes and very soft proteins today. WOO!  Oh that's nice.

Pre-op stuff done now.

Feb 13, 2008

Ok, my pre-op stuff at the hospital is all done.
they pulled some blood (4 vials... easy stuff) and did an EKG.  Small urine test and that was about it.

also met with the surgeon again and he was pleased with my 20lbs loss. didn't really have much to say.  I asked him whether my RNY was distal or proximal.  I got a great explaination of the difference between the two and by what I heard, mine is considered proximal, but Dr. Stone also wasn't very fond of the reasoning behind which was better, etc.
I can't say I cared really, except that my OH profile asked :D

Still kinda scared, but ready to make this change and move on.

Yay! Final Date!

Feb 12, 2008

I got a confirmed date today!  Feb 18th!

and confirmation from the Hospital that I will owe NO (let me repeat)...... NOT A F**KING DIME!  when I come in.

My turn to screw the insurance companies =)
Thank god for dual coverage.

Insurance Update

Feb 11, 2008

Talked to Blue Shield today (my secondary) and was told I don't need authorization from them for the surgery.

Yay!

Now we're just waiting on Blue Cross to get the authorization process taken care of fully and notifying everyone.

SO instead of the 18th surgery date, looks like it will most likely be the 25th because there is only 1 spot open for the 18th date.

EGD done....

Feb 08, 2008

Ok, so yesterday I had to get an EGD done.  I don't feel like typing the long word it stands for, but for anyone reading that doesn't know... it's a basic endoscopy to check esphogus, duodenum, stomach, upper small intestine.  It was a kewl process I guess.  I guess it goes to show ya;  provide a few good drugs and I'm up for anything (LOL)  Just kiddin..  But it all went pretty smooth.  Now I'm just waiting to hear from the Dr. Stone.  He's also my RNY surgeon.  He did the EGD to check for some bacteria that can live in the stomach (that causes ulcers).  Because I have had ulcers in my history, he needed to make sure that bacteria was not in there.

Although, not sure why he couldn't have just given me the medicine to kill it (if I have it).  It's a two week course medicine.  Wouldn't that have been cheaper ?  Oh... forgot... they're not concerned about the costs to us..

Got it.

Also checked my weight at the hospital.  Down 15 pounds since starting the pre-op (liver shrinking) diet.  yay.

Not so bad....

Jan 31, 2008

ok, this isn't so bad.  One week now on the 'pre-op' diet.
day 1 and 2 were a little rough, but very doable.  It's actually got my mind wondering why I didn't do this earlier.  But then I remember all the LONG TERM reasons I am going through this process.

I hope to make it down to Shasta Regional tomorrow to weigh in.  I'm hoping (and thinking) I might be down 5-7lbs or so.  At least I do know that my Nut will be happy with the new A1C test result =====> 7.9!    (down from 10.1 in about 6 weeks)

Surgeon Consult tomorrow (01/22/08)

Jan 21, 2008

ok, so I'm kinda nervous about tomorrow.  I think I'm scared that the surgeon will deny me because of my A1C being too high.  My nut said that could be an issue. when I had my last blood panel done (dec 22), it was 10.1, but my blood sugar is doing SOO much better now.  This morning, for example, 2 hours after eating it was 90.  Can't get better than that (for me anyway)
