In the beginning...

...there was a woman who was overweight.  Gee, join the club.  Even though statistics say that 50% of Americans are obese, I'm sick and tired of being one of them.  I've fought it all my life and I'm fighting it one last time.

I've been contemplating, researching, working on, meeting with doctors, getting my hopes up, getting my hopes dashed, all in the name of weight loss.  I've been seriously looking into weight loss surgery for the past three years and had finally decided to have VSG.  I looked into doing is as as self-pay and then my Kaiser doc said that our Nor Cal Kaiser did the VSG.  She submitted the information and I was accepted.  I did the required informational meeting, met with the surgeon and nutritionist and was finally told they only did VSG in cases where the patient could not medically have RNY done.  WHAT?!?!?!?!  I talked to the surgeon and he said that Kaiser considers VSG investigative, not a proven method of weight loss surgery.  I asked if I could continue on the program for a year to see where I go with regular diet and exercise and where Kaiser goes in regards to VSG.  It's almost been a year and I'm no where near my goal and Kaiser is still stuck in the stone age.

I've decided to give myself from September 8, 2009 (fist day back from Labor Day weekend) until June 30, 2010 to see what I can do with diet and exercise.  If, at that point, I haven't achieved my goal of losing 100 lbs., I will do the self pay VSG.  In the upcoming 10 months, I will blog about my diet, exercise, what's working, what's not, and also research surgeons, meet with them, and decide who I would like to use (should I fail).  Believe me, I don't want to fail!!!
