Call me crazy...

Aug 09, 2012

With less than 2 weeks before my scheduled open RNY I went to see another surgeon today for a second opinion.
I know this seems crazy, but I've been a ball of nerves these past 2 weeks and it just doesn't feel right.

I had thought that because my insurance was MediCaid that I had to use Denver Health Hospital and throughout the process noone ever told me otherwise. I had no idea that I could use a different surgeon & hospital and that I actually had a choice when it came to WLS. From the beginning, I was told that the RNY was the surgery that was being performed and that it was because you got "more bang for your buck" with this WLS- no options, no choice, just RNY- and I wanted this so badly that I went along with it. But in the end, I felt as if I were forced into this option.

I found out about Dr. Metz on this wonderful website (OH) and I went to him with all my ?s and concerns. He feels that I would do the best with the VSG and he only does Lap. surgeries (which is what I thought I really wanted anyway). I met with his Nut & Pysch doc also and they say that as long as I can get all my records brought over that I can just pick up where I left off and I should be able to get scheduled within 30 days for the new procedure-YEAH! I feel like a hundred pound weight has been lifted from my shoulders. At this point, I feel so at ease with everything that I wouldn't even care if it took a little longer.

The moral to my story is this,
Make sure that you've researched all your options & research some more. Make sure that you get the best tool for you and not just whatever is being offered- Be happy about the choice that you're making, this is for the rest of our li
ves!
