2010 Hmmmmm!!!

Jan 02, 2010

 Hello BAF,

Well it's been quite a while and then some since I was here.  I am not promising any big updated post  at this time but I will say that I am doing well.  My health is good, my sons are well and the job is still kicking my butt!!!!  Needless to say, I am very grateful for the stability in my life.  I am shopping around for a new notebook at the moment but will upload some new photos
as soon as I get onto my sons pc.

March will be 6 years since i had my surgery and i am doing great.  Fitness is still a part of my lifestyle and a necessity if I want to keep the weight off.  I am not a fitness freak but do my best to keep moving.  I still wear a size 6 and the odd size 4, and tops can be in a medium or a small.

My New Years resolution for 2010 is to do some decorating in my home and change out some of the furniture and to also put myself on a budget that I can live with.  Going back to school is also something on my mind to do but it's not on the list.....yet.  Neither is going on a diet!!!!  LOL!  This must be the 2nd year in a row that diet never made it on the list for me!!!!

Anyway, later my friends.

I'm Late for a Very Important Date!!!

Jul 22, 2008

I just cannot believe that it's been 7 months since I last posted!!!  Shame on me!  Well, all I can say is that a lot has gone on since December and without going into too much detail, I'll just say that I am recovering from yet another surgery.  I had an "internal" hernia repair and lysiss of adhesions last week on the 16th of July. and I have to say I am fitting right in with the gastric bypass surgery profile.  Being almost 5 years post op, I am experiencing all of the side effects/complications, well not all but some.  What can one do to prevent these things from happening????  Maybe nothing but I sure need to take better care and stick to the way I am supposed to be eating as much as possible.

I am 50 years old now and I am finding that it is just as hard to prevent weight gain as it was as a pre-op.  It would be easy to make excuses, (which I have done) and say well, I had a hysterectomy and the hormone changes have made me gain weight..  The fact is, that I eat more bad carbs than protien, don't exercise and don't take my vitamins.  All of which are changing today.

I'm off to my doctor today for a post-op check up and to get the skin staples removed.  My next stop will be to the book store to look for guide books of Europe.  Yep I am embarking on another adventure with my BF in September.  Spain, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Greece to name a few of what we hope to hit.  This is truely an adventure because we will be doing most of it by motorcycle!!!!  Can you imagine me in full leathers and a helmet???  Well My BF has brought them all for me.  My challenge is the pants (with armour), they are a size too small.  I can get them on but can't zip them up.  My BF lives in the UK and of course they are UK size.  What better motivation.  I have 2 months to make them fit because you can't alter them and I don't want to be left forking out $300 for another pair!

In my mind I really want to get out of this sedentary lifestyle that i have fallen back into and am working on getting the passion back in my heart to to change.  I don't want to call it will power because that comes and goes.  Passion is more desireable.

Lastly, I have missed BAF and really want to get back on track with the forum too!  I have missed all my friends there and feel the need for their support.

Luv you all!

Brit

Still a slow start getting back on track!

Dec 18, 2007

I should have added an update a few days ago (trying to blog more frequently with the hopes of staying on track) and updated/reviewed my goals.  Well I only lost 1 lb this past week so my goal for this week is still to lose 2 lbs.  I am glad that I did not gain anything though.

I went to the gym last week and used the eliptical for 35 mins...............I could have gone longer cardiac wise but I started feeling a little twing in my lower abdomen.............................I probaly over did it!  Needless to say I need to step up the pace of my walks and stick with the treadmill for a little while longer.

I did the protein train for a few days but missed eating my fruits and vegetables.  For me this is a more normal way of eating and I am able to plan meals that will satisfy me without being deprived.  When I think about it, I eat fewer calories when I am able to include all food groups.  When I'm on the protein train I eat too many higher fat foods, pork chops, bacon, cheese etc.  Too many damn calsories man!!!!  Even as a pre-op I was never successful on Atkins.  I've not been so good with the protein shakes but will try to get one in every day.

Wish me luck for the week!

One Step At A Time.

Dec 11, 2007

I told myself I was going to update every week............so i'm a few days late but no worries mates!  I am happy to say that I have lost 4 lb's since last week.  (Actually I last weighed just before my surgery.......in at 166.........yuk!).  I have been replacing breakfast with a protein shake (not every day though) and trying to cut out the starchy carbs, like rice and potatoes.  Eventually I will go back to my sweet potatoes which are much healthier.

I have only been doing a little walking since having my recent surgery, but this week my goal is to step up the walking and use the treadmil at the gym.  If I can lose 2 lb's this week I will be happy.

My fluid intake has not been the best.  I do drink hot tea, about 4 cups a day (I quit coffee about 3 months ago), but I add mil to it most of the time.  I am going to start drinking green ginger and peppermint teas in addition to my water and crystal lite.

I have just about weened myself of the bubble gum and Nips cravings at night.................they were just ruining my teeth and making me gain weight too!

Well, wish me luck for the week! See ya!

Getting back to being me!!!!

Dec 02, 2007

Okay, I am a week post hysterectomy today and I am feeling so much better physically.  I'm still plagued with a little bloating escpecially after eating the slightest thing but my gut is working again.  I don't have any pain as such just a pulling sensation in my lower abdomen..........especially if I do too much!  I will be going for a post-op check with my gyne today so wish me luck.

After reading JusChanJ's blog this morning, I figured now would be a good time to set some goals too.......small ones for now.  I like Treena's idea of setting the goals to be acheived over a week as this seems more realistic and doable.  Daisies post on the 5 day pouch test is what I plan to follow in trying to up my protein and cut out the processed carbs.  It's been a good ride eating all that junk but enough is enough.  I am  not worried that my pouch has stetched back to what it was but am just concerned about my comfort level with eating too much of the things I should'nt and I want to look nice for new Years..

As far as execise, iIam still restricted with that other than walking, so I take every oportunity to walk my pooch a few times a day.  I can't wait until my mom leaves this week end because I want to go to the gym and use the treadmil..............she will have a fit if she finds out!!!!

I am enjoying being home and hanging out on BAF and although I am slated to be off work until January 7, I think I will go back jan. 2nd, that way it will be a 3 day work week for me and I can ease back into it.........sound good??

Later folks!

Health issues continue but God has shone his light on me.

Sep 05, 2007

I am keeping my update brief and will only say that my H&H did fall lower that previously posted.  No transfusion yet and i will start on Lupron INJECTIONS!!!!!!!.......in preparation for surgery (now sometime in November).

I will see a hematologist on the 12th of this month to address some other abnormal labs (low wbc's etc).

Today and yesterday were the best days I have had in weeks  as far as my energy so I am praying that it continues.

I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy last week which showed the colon and my pouch as being clear, but they saw a patch os something in my esophagus and put me on antibiotics????  I am worried about this and can't go into detail right now...........it's nothing to do with cancer though.. ..... they are investigating to see if its not a flukey finding vs. something worse.

I am tired of eating red meat spinach and all that iron rich garbage........it's not helpng anyway and my doctor has said just to continue the iron pills.

I have been watching what I eat and staying away from spicy/high fat foods.  I lost 2 lbs without even trying.  I hope it stays off!

In an attempt to get a little exercise in I have started taking my dog for extended walks in the morning on weekends..........Mickey hates it.  once he's done his job he is ready to go back home........I don't let him and he pulls away on the leash for about 10 minutes into the walk.........lazy bum!

Well,  thats it for now.  by the way BAF you are all looking good out there!!!

I'm praying I get better soon!

Aug 13, 2007

Hey BAF,

I have not been on the board for a bit just trying to work on my health issue.  Well now I have another one................is it and ulcer???

I spent most of today in the emergency room today aftr being doubled over with sharp pains in my upper abdomen which radiated to my back!  Woah!!!...........it was knike-like for real!!!  The ultasound showed nothing wrong with my gall bladder or pancreas.  The ER doc is referring me to a GI doc for a cat scan and/or endoscopy.

I have been dealing with the fibroid issue and anemia, well guess what.........my Hemoglobin and hematocrit continue to fall.  On 8/3 it was hgb 8.4 and hct 28, today they are 8.2 and 26.   Thats just 10 days later. My medical Dr. comes back on Wednesday and I am sure she will get the ball rolling and address my health needs.  (Her partners are not so aggressive).  For now, I am out for the rest of the week.

Next, my family and I ha a great time on our cruise.  me, not as much as I would have liked becuse I was tired easily.  My brother was absolutely no help to me, it was like having another big kid to take care of.   I will put up some pics but need to delete a few old ones first...............when I have time.

I'll keep you posted.  By the way I am on the available list again..........why is it that men my age have so much emotional baggage??

Until next time,

Brit

Jul 23, 2007

Two more days and I'm off cruising to Key West and Cozumel, Mexico.........and I cannot wait!  I am so tired of work and being stuck in a rut.  It's funny how life can become so routine in some areas.............my job never seems to let up.

Well, I had my 49th Birthday 2 weeks ago and got to spend it with my BF.  We have been dating for 7 weeks now and although we both are into each other, we are taking it slow for a couple of reasons.  I hope this relationship works out because I am not getting any younger.

Now for the issue of my iron levels, or lack there of!!!!  My Dr. wanted me to cancel my trip as she believes my hemoglobin is probably below 9 now and that I would need a transfusion................OF BLOOD!!!  I have no problem with this but she is also talking hysterectomy due to my fibroids.  I told her that I would get all the work up done when I come back from my trip as my kids and brother and nephew have been looking forward to it for months!

I know I know, why am I not taking care of myself.  I think I am, but when you have had to depend on yourself for so long and others depend on you, who are you supposed to rely on when you are not at 100%?  I don't doubt that God has my back, and I am putting myself in hands.  So.....when my holiday is over, I will have the bloodwork and ultrasound done and prepare myself to go into hospital

I will keep you posted!

Brit.

Way behind with updating my profile!

Jun 27, 2007

Without going into too much detail due to lack of time, here's just a few things that have taken place since I last update.

I graduated fro university in May with a BS degree in health services administration.   This was a life committment to myself that I had to put on hold for many years while raising my family.

In May, I also took off to Barbados to attend my cousins wedding and got to spend quality time with my mom at the same time.  The wedding and Barbados were absolutely beautiful.

Last weekend I went to the Orlando meet and Greet.............well what was left of it!  I got to meet a few people from the board, Sharon AKA Shay Sings, Michelle, AKA Diva Michelle, Kelly, AKA Kitty Kat and of course Ebony, AKA Chocolate Angel.  iI did not get to spend much time with them but I will say that these ladies are true to who they are..............beautiful and with such outgoing vibrant personalities.  I look forward to meeting them again.

Now on a more personal note, I have been dating a guy for 3 weeks now, and I am scurred!!!!  The compatability is unreal.  Anyway I will let you know how it works out.

Coming up in July I have my 49th Birthday, and cruise to Mexico with my kids, brother and nephew.................I can't wait!

As far as my weight and eating...........I'm holding at 153 as of this morning.  I am still trying to get to 150lbs, an it's slow but I am getting there.  For me, it's not making myself feel deprived or feeling like a slave to the gym.  I have combined a few things that seem to be working for me as far as foods, supplements, and exercise.  I feel great.

Take care for now!

CB

3 Years Ago Today!

Mar 21, 2007

Today is my 3 year anniversary since having laparoscopic Roux-en-y surgery.  You could say that I remember that day well because the fruits of the WLS are just as sweet today as when compard to the early days of transitioning to the new me.  I give thanks every day to GOD for briging me through the operation of which HE know's I put my life on the line and in his hands to have.

Over the past 3 years I have accopmlished many goals and enjoy my life to the fullest despite the little ups and downs that the surgery has left me with.  There is no rhyme or reason for when I will dump or when food decides to get stuck on it's way down........it just depend on my little pouch.  And yes, I beleive it is still little.

Today I am weighing 155 lbs from 281, and wear a good size 6 from a size 24.  I stand 5ft 8 in, have had no plastic surgery, yes I have bat wings, and a jiggly tummy but it's all mine and i'm keeping it.  I workout regularly taking a break every now and then.

I joined BAF 3 weeks after having my surgery and it's the best thing that I could have ever done while recovering.  The support, advice, friendship, laughter,  rants and rages, sadness, courtings, hookups, marriages, and babies, meet and greets.....whew !!!.....I could go on.........!!! well its all been worth it and having you all as my extended on line family cannot be replaced.

I never had AN angel but many of you came to my rescue when I needed you most.......and you may not have even known it!  Just to mention a few:  Cookie Lucious, (Mrs tell it like it is) Dolphin DeDee (bring back the dolphin Dedee, and thanks for keeping it real)), Mrs. Joyce ....Honey, (I miss you sweetie....call me), frenchy(love them jokes), Ihavecateyz(it took a while didn't it!  You will know what I mean 'cause we think a like), Ms D (I get the guilt complex with your exercise posts and then become committed, thanks)Blackjoi, Blacktygress, and  Mrs. Tippytoes (my South Florida divas, I love y'all!)You just keep representing.........you are fantastic role models and should be commended!!!!

I hope to continue to provide support, to all on the board, pre and post op , not to forget the no-op's because it helps me too and reinforces all of the positives that WLS brings.

Thanks again, Bev, AKA CB, Brit, Britt, Bev H, Caribe,...yada yada yada!  I'll answer to them all.  :-)
