I am a 63 year old woman from North Dakota who has had a number of health issues, all related to my weight problem. I have been overweight all of my life and have tried everything and spent lots of money on trying to get rid of fat. And, like everyone else, each time was a 'failure' and each time confirmed my feelings of not being as good as other people. I have felt this all my life...and how other people treat obese people confirms that also. I have diabetes, on 4 shots a day and still not under control, have had heart bypass surgery 12 years ago, have thyroid problems, Gerds, sleep disorder, depression, and back aches. I am in the process now, and waiting to visit my surgeon for the first time this Thursday...(22nd) and then on for the insurance approval. I pray that the insurance will approve on the first attempt...so I can get on with the rest of my life. I have had very positive support from some of the others here, and what they have told me from their experiences, I feel that WLS is what will give me a longer life so I can enjoy watching my family grow and find their way in the world. I could indeed be an inspiration to them that it is never too late to make a life change and succeed.
