I have been overweight all of my life, and struggled with losing the weight for as long as I can remember. I began to look into gastric bypass surgery about 1 1/2 years ago. I researched the lap band procedure, and numerous other procedures and decided the rouen-y was the one for me. I started the new patient process in February of 2007, I was really looking forward to having the surgery in the fall of 2007, but that was not meant to be. I went through the 6 months of monitored weigh ins, and excercise; seeing the shrink, going to support group meetings, and learning everything I could about the rouen y procedure, and how to live after the surgery. Then my heart and hopes sank when I got my insurance denial letter in September of 2007. I thought my insurance covered the surgery, but found out it did not, nor did any of the other plans that were available to me. I hit the lowest of lows in my whole life, I felt like dying would have been easier. I was depressed for weeks, but then decided that only I could do something about it. Luckily I have a career that enables me to find jobs very easily. I found a new job with insurance that I knew would cover the surgery!! I took a part time job in November of 2007 and signed up for the new insurance. In February of 2008 I started the process again. I did not have to redo any of the stuff that I had already completed. My request was submitted to the insurance company, and I received my approval in about 1 hour!!!! I was beyond extatic. I started scheduling my surgeon visit, physical therapy visits and new doctor visits. I was able to see the surgeon in about 3 weeks. I set up my pre surgery testing and my surgery day that same day. I was so excited. The weeks leading up to my surgery were filled with happiness and fear of the surgery itself, but I knew it was the right thing. The day before my surgery I was so nervous, but I kept busy. The morning of my surgery I was very scared, I cried a little, but was also glad that my new "birthday" was finally here. My surgery was done on April 16,2008 at 11:30 am. The day went by so fast. I was able to get up and walk that evening, and went home the following evening. This is the beginning of my new life.
