6 Months Post op

Oct 04, 2006

Here it is 6 months since my surgery. Yesterday the 5th actually and I saw Dr Bookwalter, what a sweetie he is. NOT good on post op care but definately a keeper. He was impressed with my weight loss and the way I look. He also said he will take care of my skin issues, which is something he told me prior to surgery also. What a guy. Unfortunately I didnt get any answers about my lack of eating stuff but he did say if it hasnt changed by our next appt on Nov 3rd He will do a scope. My blood work came back horrendous. Lets see, Anemic,Low Vitamins A AND D, Low Potassium and barely normal B12. My thyroid level is almost normal now so thats a plus. I bought additional supplements yesterday so started them right away, will see how this turns around. I am so tired but I guess thats the anemia. My stomach doesnt hurt like it did last time I posted but I am still not taking in more than a couple hundred calories a day cuz Im not hungry and my stomach feels better if I dont eat. I can drink fine so am gonna do more protein powder to my crystal light. I will turn this around this month. Until next time, Good luck to all of you.

95 lbs down

Bad Week!

Sep 23, 2006

NOT a good day, NOR a good week. This week has been HELL. Food wont stay down, hair is falling out and i wish I could undo this surgery, that simple. I was telling a friend of mine that I will probably be the only known case worldwide that had their staples rust inside their body. LOL. My pouch just isnt being nice to me and it sucks. I have dr. after dr appt and that sucks too. I will be glad when Oct 5th comes so I can see my surgeon so maybe he can tell me whats going on. I had more luck keeping food down at 5 days post op instead of now at 5 plus months post op. I called my surgeons office last week and was told to drink cod liver oil, why dont they drink cod liver oil? I cant poop on my own, need MOM for that. Am on anti nausea pills that do nothing to help the nausea just forces me to drink something to wash them down with. The hair thing is horendous, bald eagle. Right in the front too. On a brighter note, God help me to find a brighter note please. LOL. Lets see, I got put on lasix for fluid retention, dont know how I can retain fluid when I puke it up all the time, but anyways, been on that for 3 days and dropped 3 lbs. Is that possible, we will see, I did find some unflavored protein mix at GNC for 18 bucks for 30 servings at 17 grams per serving so thats helping get the protein in. Other than that, I am sick, I am tired of being sick. Will update after surgeon appt.

Update

Sep 13, 2006

I am still lurking around the boards on a daily basis. I found the April surgery boards and love reading everyones progresses and dilemmas. Also am always on the over 50s boards. :).
I have lost 3 lbs since I last updated. I am now at 201. Man, to get below 200 is going to be so estatic. I did see it last saturday, the 10th but due to water retention cuz auntie Flo stopped by, I didnt see it for long. LOL. I dont keep my weight as official unless I stay at the same weight for 3 days in a row. I will get there, hopefully when auntie flo goes away. My goal after that will be Century Club. That means to make it to Century Club, I have 11 more lbs to go. To get to just overweight, I have to lose 15 more lbs. That would be 186. I bet I havent weighed under 200 for at least 35 years. Maybe longer.
Not much news to write but the quitting smoking is coming along. The tapes came in, I have to listen to them every day for 21 days. I will, with any luck and constant prayer be smoke free by Oct 1. Still going thru the pre op tests with my best friend. Hopefully she will get her surgery in Dec. What a christmas present that will be. She will be getting the Sleeve. Food is still an issue, man, some days I throw up almost constantly, other days, all is fine. Would I do this again? You bet ya. :). Until next time, Wishing you the best of luck.

5 Months Post op

Sep 02, 2006

Tuesday will be my 5 month post op date. I am now down 87 lbs. Can you believe it? Me neither. :). Whats more important than that number is the way I have been feeling physically and mentally. August was a rough month with many many doctor appts. I had to see a cardiologist becuz of rapid heart rate and was put on medication to slow it down, the medication is called atenentol or something like that, will correct the spelling later. :). I also found out my thyroid is not working, hypothyroidism and was put on synthroid for that. I also had to see a neurologist after having an MRI on my brain, found out I have something to do with fluid flow in my right inner ear and am scheduled for an epley maneuver on sept 27th. I have many appts in sept, follow ups to the above mentioned. Oh and also was put on oxygen for when I am sleeping. NONE OF THIS was related to my weight loss surgery, just things happening as I turned 50 I guess. :). BUT even though I had all these new issues arrive last month, or at least get diagnosed last month, I feel so much better than I have in years. I am down to 204 now, 5 more lbs and I will be below 200 and in ONEDERLAND. I bet i havent been below 200 in at least 35 years. I have also decided that September will be the month I quit smoking, I have ordered some hypnotic tapes, I have bought the patch and I will be picking up the commit lozengers before the tapes come in. I am going to do it if I have to staple my mouth shut. I have smoked for 34 years and I have copd/asthma and the beginning of emphysema. It really doesnt make much sense to me for me to have gone thru the wls just to die of lung disease becuz I continue to smoke. I am going to quit, saying it is simple but doing it iis so hard. I have a friend who had wls 21 years ago and is in the process of pre op tests for a revision, she is going to quit smoking with me, we can support each other, hopefully. LOL
OK, one last thing, SIZES, not a big size different than last month, as I only lost 9 lbs in august but I am wearing 18s now on the bottom, and Large and XLarge on the top. The boobs are all gone now. I wasnt big to start with, just a C cup but now am down to a B with extra room too. LOL. The skin is pretty bad, but would rather have the skin than the fat. I found the over 50s board and just love it there, not that I dont read alot on the main message board but relate alot to the over 50s and the people over there are so nice and friendly and supportive. Thank You OH. Till next time, I wish every one of you the best of luck.

4 months out

Aug 04, 2006

Today was my 4 month post op anniversary. The scale says I am down 80 lbs but I am only taking it as 78 because it doesnt agree with my surgeons scale. I see him for my follow up on Tuesday. Will be adding new Ticker and Picture on Monday or Tuesday.

Update

Jul 31, 2006

I am not good at journaling at all but after reading other peoples profiles, I realize that mine is pretty BLAH. I have had a weight issue all of my life that I can remember. I had my 3 sons early in life and gained weight after each one and never lost it. I also have bipolar which has been hard to deal with also. Different meds thru out my life have also caused me to gain weight but if I am to be totally honest. my weight gain was due to my over eating habits as well as all the junk food that I ate. I originally started looking into this surgery in 2005, made 3 appts with surgeon and never showed up for any appt. Very scared. I did keep my Jan.06 appt and did all the preop stuff just to find out the Medicare was no longer paying for WLS as of feb 06. My doctor said no problem, he would waive his fees and I could apply for free hospital care, which I did and my surgery was done on 4/5/6. I will admit I didnt know a whole lot about the post op stuff and alot of it came as a big surprise. There are still days that I feel I may have made the wrong decision having this surgery but thats just frustration from dumping, which I do alot and throwing up. Im sure as time goes by I will be more appreciative of this surgery. I am the mother of 3 grown sons and 1 4 yr old grandson. I am happily married to the best man around. Will update later.
