I got my date...!

Sep 16, 2010

Hi everyone

Yetsreday I had my screening with my surgeon and the psych. Again a VERY positive experience in this bariatric center, the surgeon was just as friendly en compassionate as the rest of his staff. I told him about my doubts between RNY and sleeve, and he was willing to do either on me. But he did tell me everything he know about both and that he would recommend I get the RNY

A) because of my high BMi the RNY will probably yield better results. He sees a lot of people with sleeves coming back after a couple of years for a second procedure. He said he would do a sleeve with me but would expect to see me back in two years for the remainder (being a RNY, he does not do DS)

B) because I do admit to being a sweet eater with pre-diabetes and mild GERD and the RNY would help me more with that than the sleeve. Of course we know only 30% dumps, but from his explanation I get that I would have to have EVEN MORE self control with the sleeve. Plus RNY is better for diabetes and GERD he says

C) he told me that in his practice, the RNY is not riskier than the sleeve, because he is so experienced in RNY. he did over 1000 RNY with 0 mortality, he does them in 45 minutes, so his RNY is as good (riskwise) as a sleeve.

D) he told me stuff about the sleeve I did not know, about some complicationas and such. Furthermore he told me to stop focussing on the complications now and start focussing on the positive sides of this procedure.

So he left the choice up to me but I went along with his recommendation for RNY.

I immediately got my date for november 15 th!!!!

I already had pre operative testing done today and prescirtions filled. That is what i like about this centre; they are very efficient.

First I was only very afraid after I made this final choice, but now I start to feel very excited about it!

YAY Catje! Two more months before my new life begins! (although I have to start diet now and do shakes 2 full weeks beforehand)
