I'm a SLOW loser

Oct 13, 2015

Week 16 and I am down 43.7 since surgery.  My stats are as follows:  HW: 266.1 PreSurgery -10.1, SW: 256, M1- 18, M2-10.9, M3- -10.6, so far M4 -4.1.

If I hear one more VSG/WLS veteran say "It really doesn't matter what you eat the first 6 months- you will lose weight.." I will punch them in the face.  I have to FIGHT for every pound I lose.  I exercise 1.5-2 hours 5-6 times EVERY week and have been since week 2.  It's official.  I am one slow ass loser.  I journal EVERYTHING I eat in MFP.  I avoid carbs at all costs.  I don't even eat corn, potatoes or any starchy vegetable.  I get at least 90 grams of protein everyday.  I have never gone above 1100 calories in a day.  I get my water in EVERYDAY.  This is NOT easy AT ALL.  But this isn't a diet I can just blow... it's MY life.  So I will make it work.  If you're getting WLS surgery thinking everything will be easy- Good Luck.  Not even close.

6 week update

Aug 04, 2015

Timing.... is everything.  Things are good, overall- but not without challenges.  I am absolutely amazed by how my appetite has diminished since surgery.  I no longer wake up in the morning obsessed with what I'm going to eat.  I've felt new freedom from this.  However, I NEED to think about food for the day... AND vitamins for the day.  If I don't- I'm in trouble.  A couple of days I didn't start eating until 11:00 am and it affected my energy levels.  I felt bad the entire day.  I'm on soft foods so I must wait at least 30 minutes after my meal to drink water.  Getting water in... getting vitamins in... getting tiny meals in and protein supplements to meet my goals... takes planning and thought.  I haven't gotten sick yet from eating too much- but I've come close.  Eating SLOWLY is more important than ever.  I'm determined to do this right.  I'm working towards getting into a routine.

One Month Post Op

Jul 23, 2015

Time flies.  I can't believe I'm a month Post Op.  Today I had an appointment with the Nutritionist at my hospital.  It was great to spend time with others who have had WLS.  I'm really glad I went.  I've only been taking two calcium citrate when I should've been taking 3 per day.  Oops.  I started soft foods a couple of days ago- Wow, what a difference.  A little food makes me VERY full.  I'm concentrating on slowing down when I eat so I don't get a delayed full feeling.  So far so good.  One month later I'm down 28 lbs (18 lb since surgery).  I'm happy with that.  I've been walking 1-3 miles almost daily.  I am SO happy I had this surgery- looking forward to my progress.

Two weeks Post Op

Jul 07, 2015

Wow- what a difference two weeks makes.  Today I'm feeling more like me than ever.  Energy is good!  I also start Pureed foods today.  I'm a little nervous about that, but determined to stick with my plan.  I'll take it slow.  Yesterday I walked 1.5 miles with my husband at the Marina.  It felt really good.  Before this I've been doing laps around my back patio.  I've been taking miralax since day 1- hospital put it in my water- so no constipation problems.  I've added sugar free equate fiber tablets (2) and SF metamucil to up my fiber intake.  So far so good.  I'm feeling very hopeful.  I've been tracking my food and water intake in My Fitness pal.

8 Days post op... Doing good so far..

Jul 01, 2015

I had my first post op visit with Dr. Estakhri today.  I haven't weighed myself since surgery.  I was happy to be down over 17 lbs since starting my journey.  I really don't mind this liquid phase.  I'm eating good soups and drinking my protein supplements.  My husband has been an angel and has been SO supportive.  I'm VERY lucky.  Surgery was fine.  I woke up groggy, nausea kicked in and some pain... but it was all manageable with meds.  My experience with Valleycare and Dr. Estakhri has been absolutely fantastic.  I'm reaching my fluid minimums and my protein minimums.  I'm so glad I did this for myself.  I'm excited for what my future holds.

Twas the night before Surgery...

Jun 22, 2015

It's the night before surgery tomorrow and I'm feeling pretty good.  I'm ready.  Last week I was on an emotional rollercoaster.  Tonight I feel mostly calm.  I went to a support group (Thank you OH) on Saturday and had a good cry in front of everyone.  But hearing people's stories and experiences is comforting and educational.  I feel very fortunate and blessed to be part of this community.
