pureed diet yeah!!

Nov 27, 2007

Today I am starting the pureed diet. Yeah..... something other than liquid. I am totally liquid out.   All in all everything is going well. Had a bad day with constipation. Any of you folks getting ready for surgery keep in mind the 2nd week  post op constipation is a problem for many. Take a stool softener at least everyother day until you start eating pureed foods with more fiber.  Trust me you will not regret it.  Otherwise everything is great. I weighed today and lost 5.5. lbs. since my last weigh in.  I am happy with that.  My drain hole seems to be healing. I am so ready to take a bath and swim. I love being in water. I miss my soaking baths.   Well that is it for now.  Until next time.....

19 days post op

Nov 25, 2007

Well it has been 19 days now since surgery. I am still on full liquids and so ready for pureed foods. It is really hard getting all the fluids, protein and mini meals in. It seems you are always eating or drinking something.

The drain came out last week Wednesday - what a relief.  My left side does still hurt I am anxious for it to heal.

I do find I get tired easily, hopefully this will get better once on some pureed and soft foods.  Overall I feel pretty good and have no regrets.

Tuesday I go back to the MD's office and will be started on pureed foods. Yeah..... Anxious to see what if any weight loss. ( they informed us the second week or so you may not have any weight loss which is normal since we are introduced to more calories.) According to my scales I have lost an addiitonal 5 lbs.  That puts me at a 36 lbs weight loss since 1 month before surgery when I started optifast -21 lbs since surgery.

My surgery sisters/partners are also doing great. I am so glad we have had each other throughout this journey. They are the BEST>>>>
That's all for now....

Home and doing well...

Nov 11, 2007

I am now home since Thursday post -op 5 days. Each day is getting better especially the getting up and down. Abdominal soreness is really my main complaint rather than pain. Getting the protein down really is tough.... I am doing it though -but it does STINK>>>>

Taste buds really change once home and drinking the different things. Smells are also sensitive. I can smell things it seems miles away.  I have been walking a neighborhood track getting in 1 mile each day since coming home. Feel pretty good about that. I stay busy at home walking lots too.  Believe you me walking is the best medicine for this journey right now.  Any folks getting ready for surgery make sure you get up and walk lots at the hospital. It is well worth it.

My surgery was a afternoon sx and I was not able to get up and walk until 8:30 that eve. The next day I walked lots around the floor. That second night I had trouble getting comfortable and was just plain miserable so I got up out of the bed at 1:30 am and walked the  around the  2nd floor 3 complete times. I returned to bed at 2 am and sleep like a baby the remainder of the night. Trust me it helps so much.

I had lots of air bubbling around in my abdominal cavity and walking helped move it and released the pressure. You will have lots of air/gas building up. Lots of hiccups, burps etc. all which is normal. Walk, Walk, and Walk.....

I can't wait for my second week when I can drink full liquids with milk bases. Clear liquids are getting really boring.   All in all I feel really good about all that has transpired with me the last few days. Glad to me home.

Good luck to all of you with upcoming surgeries. It will be just fine.

My surgery sisters/partners Angela and Deidre also did really great our surgeries were the same day. We were such good support for eachother. I love them dearly....... we are more than friends now we have formed such a good bond.
Well I quess that is it for now. Will add more later.

Nov 03, 2007

I can't believe the day is so near now.....  I too am very excited, anxious and of course somewhat scared. Basically scared of the unknown. My 2 surgery sisters are great and I look forward to sharing this adventure with them. Keep us in our prayers and look out we will be joining the loser team very soon.
