3/1/07- See my blog!

1/15/2007- So I had my first fill, what an adventure.  After 7 needle sticks up in the office I had to go to the radiology department.  He found the port, and tried again, but the needle was to short, so he went to get another longer needle.  He finally got it.  9 needle sticks!  I felt if I drank water it would spurt out!  No it was ok, I have to say a little unconfortable but it was ok.  He said as I loose more weight the port will be better to see.  I know where it is now so it isn't to bad.  The bad thing is I so forgot to ask him how much he put in.  I know so stupid.  With everything I so forgot.  I have a call into the office and we will see what happens.  At the drs office I was down 28lbs.  But this morning on my scale it was 30.  We will see.

1/10/2007- So things are going well.  I feel good.  I discovered my soft stop this weekend so I was very excited about that.  I am loosing very slowly and it is hard to tell right now since we got a new scale and it says I weight more that the other scale, so that is a bit of a bummer.  But I am still holding at about 30 lbs.  Maybe I will try to find the other scale and check it out.  I also bought a pedometer and I am trying to see how many steps I can get in a day.  Yesturday it was around 4000, I thought I did more than that.  I was a bit disappointed.  So I am going to try for more.

I still struggle with food, sometimes I am just hungery, and I know it is head hunger.  I just want to do better.  The other thing is I get so mad about food sometimes.  I have a hard time going out with others and seeing all the stuff they eat.  I am trying to get better, but it is a challange I am going through.  I know I need to adopt my friend Steve's idea, that I this is for me and I need to do what is best for me and get over it.  BUT some days are better than others....

1/3/2007- It is a new year. I am on normal food, and my fill is schedualed for 1/12/07 so that is good.  We will see what that brings.  I am not necessarily feeling full, but I think I am feeling restriction.  I am also trying to follow the rules the best I can.  I am finding it hard to get all the water in, but I am working on it.

12/18/2006- Things are going well, I am on soft foods now, so I have many choices for food.  I am down 24 lbs at this point, which I think is fantastic since I am still not filled and just healing.  I am very excited about the information I am learning from everyone on the board!  Thanks.

I began my journey a while back, in 2004.  I started looking in to the surgery, to make a long story short, my insurance company would not pay for the surgery and I was not willing to self pay yet.  Jump ahead to Oct 06, I decided I needed to do something, what I was doing wasn't working and for my health and well being I needed to take the bull by the horns.

So, I contacted Dr. Artuso's office in Dobb's Ferry and begain my pre-op testing again.  I had lapband surgery 11/29/06, and I am in the recovery phase.  As of today 12/12/06 I have lost 19lbs.  So things are coming along.  More to come!

So here is some back ground on my situation:

2 years ago I started looking in to lapband, I went through pretesting and such and even paid the $500.00 pre surgical fee, I had checked with my insurance and they told me they covered the lapband...well they didn't, yet, but they were going to reevaluate soon since the lapband at that time was considered experimental.  So I decided to table my plan there and wait a bit.  I went to weight watchers and lost 35lbs, but hit a platue and was stuck for a few months, more like 6, so last Feb I started seeing a holistic dr, and tried actupuncture, nope didn't work, I gradually gained back 30lbs.  So at this point I had had it.   So in Oct 06 I decided to check into it again and found out that there was an exclusion in my insurance policy and Lapband was not covered at all.  So I decided that my health was more important than the money, and I got a loan to pay for it.  My husband has insurance, but since I don't have any comorbidities and he was switching to a new insurance during the month of Dec, and they were hmo's I just did it.  I don't regret it, but I am very exciting for my band to start working.
