“Unvoiced expectations are resentments in waiting.”

Aug 16, 2010

This should be engraved in my desk today, I am living this very situation.
I work a part time job. I have a very low salary. The budgeted amount fo my position is 6,000 more than I was hired at. This year when budgets came along, I expected someone from the committee to come and speak to me about my needs, job performance etc..... I even prepared a proposal of some things I would like to have added to my salary pkg. Well...when the new budget came out, the line item for my position had been reduced to match my current rate of pay and no one ever came to me to ask. I didn't speak up. Last night the budget was up for approval by the membership and was passed without anyone even voicing concerns over my rate of pay ( I am payed far below any other employee!!)
Today I am disappointed and full of resentment. IF I had just spoken up or presented my proposal for additional compensation, I could have at least addressed the issue, even if my proposal was rejected. Once again I set myself up to be unhappy, I am angry at people who had no idea of my needs because I was too dumb or insecure to present my needs to them.
