slow.... slow....slow

Nov 25, 2009

well I've hit a wall so hard it's nerving!!  I've lost 10lbs in 2 months???  what the heck!!  I hadn't realized it had been that long of a plato until i logged on tonight and put my new wt in.  I'm floored!!  I don't think I'm eating that bad.  I've been more active than I have my whole life.  I know I am bad @ the routine exercise thing, but I keep moving which is waaay more than I have ever done!!

I'm puzzled!!  My 1 yr will be Dec 16.  I have lost right @ 150lbs, which I know that's nothing to be bad talking about, but I am worried that I am messing up and will not get the last 80 or so lbs off!!  Don't most people get closer to their goal by the time they have hit 1 yr??

I am open for all tips, comments and so-forth!!

WOW!!

Jun 09, 2009

Well I'm having another WOW moment!!  This morning I stepped on the scales and it read 299!! I haven't seen the 200's in over a decade!!  This is a humbling moment for me. I can't begin to express the joy that it brings me.  This journey has brought me so much already and I'm only 5 1/2 months out!  my total loss now is 107.
More and more people are starting to notice my wt loss.  When u have so much to loose the first 50 can really go unnoticed by most people.  I even had a patient that I hadn't taken care of since before surgery make a comment about how I've lost so much weight since the last time they had seen me!!  That made my night!!
My next goal that I'm working on is a bike.  My husband and I have started looking @ different ones here and there.  I think I'm still to big to buy one and start ridding but the bug has bit me and I'm ready!!  My kids are so excited about the idea of going on bike rides with us they can hardly wait!!  Todd is about 25lbs away from reaching goal so he's actually used his Dad's bike a few times this month and rode with the kids already- it was an awww moment!!  My kids were happier than Christmas morning!!  for real!!
It's amazing how much life is opening up before my eyes just from loosing weight..... I can only imagine what the next 100 lbs will bring me!!  I'M READY!!

Peace out -

4.5 months out

Apr 21, 2009

So I am a little behind on posting... SORRY!!  I'm bad @ this.   Things/life just gets going so fast that it is hard to slow down and take a few to post... I'll work on that!

updates....
so here we go, I'm back @ work now since March 11, just a tad more than a month now.  It has brought many challenges with eating and bowel issues.  If u don't know I'm an ER nurse,  with this brings many obstacles that I have found when it comes to being a DS'er, or any wt loss approach as a matter of fact. ....... TIME!!  I have no guaranteed lunch break or any break for that matter, I work 12 hr shifts, and when it's busy you just hit the floor running and stop when it's time to go home.  my first week back I couldn't get my protein in for nothing!!  I didn't have time to eat.  the second week I made it a point to say, I'm eating!!  I am still finding it hard to get all that I need in....I feel guilty sometimes when I know I've stepped into the break room for the 3rd or 4th time for a little 4 or 5 minute shove food down my throat break and knowing my co-workers haven't even gotten a 1st time food slamming break...  i have to get past that... My hair started falling out this past month and I know it's suppose to happen, but dang, that freeks me alittle.  I even found myself crying over it one day.... that is not like me!!  but, I'm better with this now, i have just told myself it's just a part of it and if i look like a freek before it's all done with and returns back... then so be it!!  This is my journey and i am proud of it.. freeky or not!!
This morning i stepped on the scale and it said 319!!  It's hard to believe that in another 19lbs I'll be saying goodbye to the 300's for good!!  forever!!  Todd and I just feel so blessed to know that we are on this journey..  we are gaining so much in life by loosing!!

THINGS I'VE NOTICED SO FAR WITH 87lbs GONE:

I fit in my recliner without feeling like I'm sitting on the arms

My jeans that I wore preop that were tight, I have graduated to the never-gonna- wear-again pile (after they literally fell off me while I was walking across my living room)

Loose fitting underwear really can be just as uncomfortable as tight!!  who would have thought!!!

I have cheek bones!!  LOL!!

Foot pain--  now this is a big one already!!  my 12 hr shifts aren't killing my feet nearly as bad as they were!!  yes they still hurt, but walking out to my car @ the end of a long night hasn't brought me to tears because it hurts to walk... I literally had gotten to the point of crying because it hurt so bad right before surg!!

I raked leaves, worked in the yard and planted veggies all day last Saturday--- this would have worn me out and bending over would have been alot harder, sure it still was a chore but I was able to do it for the whole day!!  And had energy to grill chicken!!

I sat in my father-in-laws car last week and the seat-belt buckle didn't dig into my side like it wanted to kill me or something!!

and last... i've lost 87, todd is now down75 .... so the two of us together.... has got to save on gas milage!!  that's a whole person less in the car!!  lol!!

7 wk check up......

Feb 07, 2009

Well first off I need to send out my "i'm sorry" for not posting as much.  I will admit it,  I have never been a poster/blogger!!  But I'm trying..... :)

So Todd and I went to see Dr Prachand on Wednesday.  7wks and 1 day post op,,,,,, hard to believe!!  Things have been going well. My bowel movements are still rather rude and, how should i put this,  a lot!!  Dr said that DS'ers need alittle extra time for the bowels to mature sometimes..... so i shall wait, with butt wipes and air freshner @ hand :)

As for the good news...  Todd is down 48lbs and I 51lbs!!

I can't wait to see what the next 7 weeks will bring!!  I LOVE MY DS!!!

Back in the hospital.. :(

Jan 04, 2009

Well..... Poop!!!  I got sick on Friday and away to the ER I went.  Went to my local ER, which is were I work, and was then transferred to U of C.  It turns out I had acquired a "belly bug" as I call it,  or some call it the stomach flu...  It was very scary and o so painful.  Everyone was afraid I had something surgical going on, I was fearful of the same.  All my tests showed that the surgical aspect of my guts were all intact and working well!!  Hats off to Dr Prachand again for such wonderful work!!!  But the fact of the matter was lots of pain and nausea!!!  This I have come to experience first hand as not being the best combo when you are just a few weeks out of a major abdominal surgery!!  My body didn't have enough bounce to bounce back like it normally would have, so I spent the weekend in the hospital!!!

All is well now.  After lost of IV fluids, pain meds and nausea meds I'm home now.  Feeling very weak and washed out.

But even after such a harsh weekend, I'm still proud of the journey I have chosen to make and what lays ahead.

  Later guys

2 week post op check up!!

Dec 31, 2008

YEA!!! I'm soo glad about how my recovery and my husbands recovery is going!!  The pain is almost gone. The only time I'm taking pain meds now is if I'm going in a car (the bumps still hurt).  We had our check up yesterday.  All is going well.  Our food logs have been looking good.  We were advanced to soft foods!!!    That was awesome!!!  Now for the best part......  I lost 17lbs last week!!!!  I about fell off the scale!!  That's a total of 30 since surgery!!    Todd lost 10lbs, his total is 29!!!  We are so happy!!!  I am excited about the journey even more now.  I guess it's becomes more real to me since I've seen the wt drop off!!

Happy New Year to everyone!!

I'M ON THE LOOSERS SIDE!!!!

Dec 23, 2008

WELL SURGERY IS DONE!!  I MUST SAY I DIDN'T THINK THAT DAY WOULD EVER COME!!  I BELIEVE I'M STILL A BIT IN SHOCK THAT I REALLY GOT TO HAVE MY DREAM!!!  WOW!! SO MY FELLOW OH'ERS HERE IS THE START OF MY STORY.. ON THE LOOSERS SIDE!!!!!

MY FAMILY ALL CAME IN ON SUNDAY 12/14 FROM OKLAHOMA AND MISSOURI.  EVERYONE WAS ALITTLE NERVOUS BUT EXCITED @ THE SAME TIME.  TODD AND I STARTED OUR LIQUID PRE OP DIET ON MONDAY... LET ME TELL YA I CAN GO WITHOUT JELLO AND CHICKEN BROTH FOR A LONG TIME AND IT WOULDN'T HURT MY FEELINGS!! LOL!!  WE STARTED OUR WOUNDERFUL BOWEL PREP THAT EVENING....  HELLO POOP!!! WHEN IT STARTED IT WOULDN'T STOP!!! SO HEADS UP TO ANYONE THAT IS ABOUT TO ADVENTURE INTO THAT ZONE,  STAY BY A BATHROOM !!!

TUESDAY IS FINALY HERE. 12/16 SURG DAY!!  WE LEFT OUR HOUSE AROUND 345.  WEATHER WAS TOUCH AND GO AND WE DIDN'T WANT TO RUN INTO A PROBLEM.  WE GOT TO  UofC A LITTLE BEFORE 5AM. WAITED IN THE LOBBY FOR THE SURG WAITING ROOM TO OPEN.  WHAT REALLY STUNK ABOUT THIS PART WAS THERE IS A REALLY YUMMY LOOKING CAFE WITH GOOEY BAKE GOODS IN THE LOBBY AND THE ENTIRE AREA SMELLED OF YUMMIES!!!

THEY CALLED ME BACK FOR SUR AROUND 6AM.  THEY TOOK ME IN @ 703.  SURG LASTED 3H 45M.  WAS TAKEN TO RECOVERY BY NOON.  HAD SOME PROBLEMS.  MY BODY MUST NOT HAVE LIKED THE NEW MAKE AND MODEL THAT DR PRACHAND MADE FOR IT SO I WENT IN ALITTLE BIT OF SHOCK.  MY HEART RATE STAYED IN THE 140'S, B/P HIGH, NO URINE OUT PUT, FEVER OF 101.2, AND GLUCOSE 229 (i'm not diabetic).  THEY TOLD ME IN MY GROGGY STATE THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO ICU BUT THEY WERE WAITING ON A BED AND WOULD BE TRYING MORE MEDS TO GET ME TO RESPOND.  ALTHOUGH I WAS VERY DRUGGED I KNEW IT WAS SERIOUS AND STARTED PRAYING.  BY 5 PM MY HEART RATE WAS DOWN AROUND 120'S. THEY KEPT ME VERY WELL CONTROLLED WITH PAIN MEDS, DIDN'T REALLY CARE MOST OF THE TIME WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY LET MY FAMILY COME BACK AROUND 9 SINCE THEY STILL DIDN'T HAVE A ROOM FOR ME, BY THIS TIME MY HEART RATE DOWN LOW 100'S HIGH 90'S.  DURING ALL OF THIS MY HUSBAND DID VERY WELL WITH HIS SURGERY AND RECOVERY AND WAS TAKEN TO HIS ROOM ON THE 3rd FLOOR.  THEY TRANSFERED ME AFTER MIDNIGHT TO A STEPDOWN UNIT ON THE 5th FLOOR.   MY BODY SEEMED TO RESPOND TO EVERYTHING ALITTLE @ A TIME. FEVER WENT DOWN, URINE STARTED. MY SWELLING WAS UNREAL THOUGH. MY FINGERS WERE SO SWOLLEN THAT I COULDN'T MAKE A FIST!!!  I'M GLAD THAT WAS OVER!!

MY MOM WAS ABLE TO STAY IN MY ROOM ON THE FIRST NIGHT.  TODD'S MOM STAYED WITH HIM.  THE NIGHT WAS A BLUR FOR THE MOST PART DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE DILAUDID PCA WAS NOW MY NEW BEST FRIEND!!  I DIDN'T EVEN CARE THAT I HAD A FOLEY IN!!  LOL!!

WED..... 1st MORNING AFTER SURG..... UGH THE PAIN.... THEY GOT ME UP @ 530 AND HAD ME SIT ON A CHAIR.  MY GOSH I FELT LIKE MY INSIDES WERE BEING RIPPED OUT!!  ~PUSHING THE PCA BUTTON FOR SURE~   THE Dr''S MADE THEIR ROUNDS SHORTLY AFTER AND WERE PLEASED THAT MY "BODY" SEEMED TO SETTLE DOWN AND HADN'T HAD ANY MORE "PROBLEMS".  MY FIRST LIQUID TRAY WAS BROUGHT TO ME AROUND 7AM!!!  YES!!! I WAS SO THURSITY!!!  MY FIRST SIP WAS PURE HARMONY IN MY MOUTH, BUT NOT IN MY STOMACH!!!  THE PAIN WAS INTENSE AS SOON AS THE FLUIDS HIT MY GUT!! OUCH!!!  I THOUGHT THIS WAS NORMAL, WELL I LEARNED IT WASN'T.  MY DR FELT THAT MY NEW STOMACH WAS SWOLLEN AND CAUSING THE PAIN. I HAD NO OTHER SIGNS OF ANYTHING GOING WRONG SO HE ENCOURAGED ME TO KEEP @ IT AS BEST AS I COULD.... UGGGG.... TWAS NOT FUN!!

WELL THE ONE POSITVE THING ON WED WAS THAT THE 5th FLOOR THOUGHT TODD AND I WERE TOO CUTE AND WANTED TO HELP WITH OUR ONE WISH OF HAVING THE SAME ROOM DURING OUR STAY. I STRESSED OUT MORE NOT SEEING HIM!!  SO THEY MADE IT HAPPEN.  BY 7pm THEY MOVED US TO A ROOM TOGETHER!!!!

THEY ALLOWED US TO MOVE ONTO PUREE FOOD THAT EVENING.  MY EATING/DRINKING HADN'T GOTTEN ANY BETTER.  I WAS TO A POINT OF NOT WANTING TO PUT ANOTHER THING IN MY MOUTH.    TODD HAD NO PROBLEMS OTHER THAN BASIC SURG PAIN.  I WAS VERY HAPPY FOR THAT FACT.

THEY WERE UNALBE TO TAKE ME OFF MY IV FLUIDS DUE TO MY LITTLE INTAKE.  I JUST COULDN'T STAND THE PAIN.  EVERYTIME, NO MATTER WHAT I HAD, WHEN SOMETHING WOULD HIT MY STOMACH I WOULD HAVE INTENSE PAIN FOR ABOUT 20sec THEN IT WOULD STOP,  UNTIL I ATE/DRANK AGAIN.

THURS WAS MY WORST DAY OF ALL!!!  MY PAIN WAS STILL THERE.... DIDN'T WANT TO EAT OR DRINK. MY NURSE KEPT TRYING ME TO TAKE PILLS.  MY DR WHOM I LOVE KEPT TELLING ME TO KEEP @ IT, THE PAIN WOULD LESSEN WITH DECREASE IN THE SWELLING. THEN TO TOP IT OFF MY BOWELS STARTED!!!  EXPLOSION OF THE POOP IS NOT EVEN THE BEST OF EXPLANATIONS............NOW TODDS BOWELS STARTED THIS DAY TOO, YET UNLIKE ME HIS WAS UNEVENTFUL!!! MINE ON THE OTHER HAND HAS NOW MADE A GREAT STORY, YET THEN WAS TOO MUCH FOR ME TO HANDLE!!!  SHORT VERSION-----  I MANAGED TO EXPLODE DIARRHEA 3 DIFFERENT TIMES,  THE SMELL MADE ME GAG (wich says alot, ER nurses can deal with alot of stinky people/things) AND TO TOP IT OFF, I COULDN'T WIPE MY OWN BUTT!!!  AND I MANAGED TO POOP ALL OVER THE FLOOR AND MYSELF 2 TIMES!!!  I HAD ENOUGH OF THAT DAY!!!

FRIDAY WAS BETTER.  I WOKE UP AND WAS ABLE TO DRINK AND EAT WITH ONLY ABOUT 30% OF MY PAIN.  I WAS SHOCKED AND HAPPY. MY DR WAS THRILLED.  HE SAID IF I CONTINUED TO BE ABLE TO DRINK AND EAT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO GO HOME LATER THAT DAY!!!
THE WIERD PART OF THIS DAY WAS YET TO COME.  THE PUBLIC RELATIONS DEPT OF UofC GOT WORD OF TODD AND I HAVING SUR ON THE SAME DAY AND WANTING A ROOM TOGHER AND HAVING 2 DIFFERENT TYPES AND THOUGHT IT WAS NEAT.  SO THEY CAME AND TALKED TO US.   ASKED IF THEY COULD LET THE LOCAL PAPER KNOW TO SEE IFTHEY WOULD WANT TO DO A STORY ON IT.... SURE WHY NOT WE THOUGHT!!!  LOL!!  I HAVEN'T HAD A SHOWER SINCE MONDAY, WHY WOULDN'T I WANT MY PIC TAKEN!!!  LOL!!
CHICAGO SUN TIMES CAME SHORTLY AFTER THAT AND INTERVIEWED US.  THEY WE WENT HOME.  YOU CAN FIND THE ARTICLE ON THE MONDAY 12/22/2008 EDITION.
WELL THE RIDE HOME WAS NOTHING SHORT OF HELL!!!  EVERY BUMP AND MOVEMENT WE FELT!!!  WE GOT HOME AND HAVE HAD A REALLY GOOD RECOVERY HERE.  WE ARE STAYING WITH MY IN-LAWS WHO LIVE 4 HOUSES DOWN FROM OURS.  SHE ROCKS!!!  SHE'S A RETIRED NURSE AND HAS JUST BEEN A BLESSING WITH OUR RECOVERY PROCESS AND TAKING CARE OF OUR KIDS!!!!

I AM SORRY THAT THIS IS SO LONG.  DIDN'T HAVE THE ENERGY TO BLOG ANY SOONER SO HAD TO CATCH UP!!!
