I have never been a small girl, but after I had my first son at the age of 20 is really when my stuggle with weight began. At the short height of 5'2 I knew that I was carrying too much weight. I began to have back problems and knee problems. I even developed asthma. I had began researching WLS back in 2004, but decided that I was afraid of the surgery. My husband and I got pregnant for a second time at the end of 2004 and although the dr said nothing I knew that I could be risking my health. I had no complications during my pregnancy which was a blessing, but after I had my daughter I still could not loose any weight and shortly thereafter I had to have surgery to repair a hernia. This is another issue with being overweight. I came through the surgery with no problems and that is when I knew that I could handle WLS. I began researching again and went to a couple of seminars and then I found Dr. Barker who was a surgeon that accepted my husband's insurance. I went for a consultation in May and was approved in late June with the first submission. Thank GOD my prayers had been answered.
