I have wanted to have gastric bypass surgery for the last ten years.  Every time I had that "what would you do with a million dollars" conversation with someone, I would always say "Have gastric bypass."  No questions, no thinking, nothing.  I have researched, attempted to get insurance, tried to figure out a way to self-pay, contemplated going to South America, pretty much everything possible before giving up and just working on a low-calorie diet.
Well, I should have known that wasn't the end of my story.  I have come to realize in my life that God always gives me what I want...even though it never happens the way I think it's going to.  This most definitely applies here.
After losing about thirty pounds on our low-cal diet, my step-mom, Kay and I started feeling better about ourselves, which made Kay start dating again.
My father passed away two years ago, but we are still very close.  So anyway, she started dating this guy and we were still doing our diet when he offered to pay for gastric bypass not only for her but for me too if we could find a cheap option.
So we start researching like crazy.  This was at the end of September and we found a surgeon we were comfortable with, a destination, everything that was scheduled for November 15, 2012.
We flew to Puerto Vallarta on November 12, 2012 and it was absolutely beautiful.  Everyone we encountered was nice, hardworking, and accommodating.  The language barrier wasn't even a huge deal.
I can't believe that after all our waiting and worrying, we were able to get this surgery.
Now my only problem is how to answer that "what would you do with a million dollars?" question.
