Well let's see, around 10 or 11 years old I began to get chubby. Every year after that I gained a little more until I reached about 280 at the age of 16. I tried Deal A Meal, Jenny, Adkins, and a million other fad diets over the years. I would always lose weight relatively easily, I could just never keep the weight off. I gave up on the roller coaster and it seemed to work, of course by this time I weighed over 300 lbs. I remained at this weight the majority of my lifetime until I had my first daughter. While pregnant I lost a little over 30lbs not counting my 8lb 7oz baby. Shortly afterward I went back to 300 were I remained until I began to get steroid shots in my spine for chronic back pain. I didn't change any of my eating habits or exercise but suddenly I jumped up 70lbs in less than two months. I became pregnant again and lost another 37 lbs, had another series of cortisone shots then jumped back up to 369 which is where I began my WLS journey.

Having numerous friends who had had RNY I was pretty familiar with the process but continued to do my homework. I've been researching for 6 or 7 years and when insurance finally fell in place I signed up for a seminar at Emory hospital. I met with my bariatrician a few days later, then my nutritionist class. My insurance required 6 months of classes, a psychiatric evaluation, an EKG, stress test, blood work, a diet history, medically supervised diet over two years, letters from my PCP, chest xray, an overnight sleep study, endoscopy, a center of excellence, a BMI over 40, and at least two co-morbidities to get me qualified. Emory requires an additional $600 in followup program fees.

My surgery date is at Emory Crawford Long Midtown on February 14th, Valentine's Day =) I should be going under the knife around 9am if all goes well with Dr. Lin's first procedure. Fingers crossed I'll just be there for two days. My last meeting prior to surgery will be February 7th to get final blood work and meet my anesthesiologist.Going over living will and power of atty stuff later this week . Currently sampling different varieties of multivitamins, calcium, fiber, iron, b12, and protein sources, trying to figure out which ones I want to stock up on. Beginning liquids two weeks prior to get my liver nice and skinny. Please wish me luck if you happen to pass by =) I'm looking forward to meeting a few new friends.
