I am seeking to have Bariatric surgery performed by Dr. Stephen Fleischer at the Dayton Bariatric Center. This surgery has many benefits for me which I will explain below.

The greatest benefit that will result from Bariatric surgery is weight loss. At 540 pounds I am at my heaviest that I have ever been. This has a huge effect on my self-esteem, a damaging one, and I want to feel good about myself. At this point I do not feel good about myself and do not feel good. Over the last two years I have been hospitalized numerous times with cellulitis that originates in my right leg. My first hospitalization was a week long and subsequent admissions have resulted in 3 day stays in the hospital. Over the last two years and having cellulitis this has amounted to me spending close to a month in the hospital. Right now I have to pick and choose which activities to do because of my general level of fatigue, but that is just part of it when I want to do something it is a given that my back and legs will be in pain and then my legs will go numb from the activity. I want to have good self-esteem, I want to feel good when I am doing activities, and I don’t want my knees, legs, or back to ache. Having this weight loss surgery will alleviate those problems.

To keep myself feeling “normal” I am taking six medications. I have a pill minder that holds my medications, so that I make sure that I take everything correctly. I also take medication for my aches and pains. Having weight loss surgery might mean that eventually I might not need those medications anymore. I will not have to worry about my medications.

I used to love riding roller coasters. I can’t do that right now. I would love to be able to ride roller coasters once again. I would like to not have to buy two seats when I fly on an airplane or to need a seatbelt extension to be safe on an airplane. I also like going to the theatres and seeing live shows, their seating makes that practically impossible. These are things that I like to do but can’t enjoy.

I want to be around for a long time. I am ready to become a school teacher and I want to be able to see the kids that I teach grow up and have families of their own. I also want to be around for my family. Having weight loss surgery will help me combat my High Blood Pressure and Type II Diabetes.
This may seem like there is a level of vanity at this point. I have not shopped in a regular store in years for clothing. Clothes are expensive enough when you are average size. They cost even more when you are big. Having weight loss surgery will allow me to get clothes from any store that I wanted.

I am a big guy and when big guys move we sweat. We don’t sweat a little we sweat a lot. If that were the only problem I would not be pointing this out. Fat folds are some pretty weird places first of all dark, moist, and friction is a recipe for a smelly and painful disaster. The smell often makes it impossible for me to go out in public and I have had to go to work and suffer through that experience. Having weight loss surgery will allow me to have better hygiene and allow me to take care of myself better.

I want to have weight loss surgery so that I can keep up with my students at school. Right now I can’t do that and I find it very difficult to get around a room. That makes my job of teaching more difficult for me than for others. Sometimes I do feel like I am judged by others because of my weight and then it is when people speak with me that they get a better picture of who I am and the intellect behind this body. I don’t feel discriminated but that does not mean discrimination doesn’t happen. Having weight loss surgery will help give me the mobility that I need to do my job.

I want to have more friends and be social. My current weight and mobility issues do not allow for me to do the things that I want to do. People judge, I am not naïve to human nature. We all attack what is different. Someone who weighs 540 pounds take some getting used to and it takes a lot of time getting to know them. I can bypass that with weight loss surgery and people will not have to judge me then based solely on my appearance.

I want to be fit enough to exercise daily and enjoy it. I would love to be able to run or bike a marathon. I want to go skydiving, scuba diving, or hiking. I can’t do these things that I want because of my current weight. Having weight loss surgery will open up life’s adventures and allow me to experience these adventures to their fullest.

I want to have the stamina to get through every day. I want to be a whirlwind in my classroom. I want to have more energy. I want to be more vigorous and love life like I have never loved it before. This is why I want to have Bariatric surgery.
