Tomorrow is 2 weeks post op

Jul 19, 2015

This is my first blog post and I figure that I need to start keeping a written record of my thoughts, feelings, events, NSVs, and missives on this new journey that I have been thrown into.

So here I am sitting two weeks post op from a VSG. I'm not going to lie...there was a complication and set back of sorts. Last Sunday, I was home alone for just an hour or so. I was being a good patient and drinking a protein shake when a bunch of symptoms came over me the biggest one was me feeling like I was nearly going to pass out. I started breathing as deeply as I could and that passed. I called a nurse and she told be to get my butt out to the hospital.

I get out to the hospital and they start doing a bunch of tests and even more lab work. They wanted to do a head CT and chest CT but the CT scanner at my hospital is too small. But there was another CT at a bigger hospital 30 miles away that I would fit into. I end up being transferred up to that hospital they re-run the labs and find that my kidney's are functioning abnormally and start me on IV fluids. The more labs come in and it is looking more and more like I have a suspected blood clot and am started on heparin. They would not run a chest CT with contrast until my kidneys were back to normal. Needless to say I was admitted to the hospital and it took 2 days for my kidneys to get back to normal and for me to get my chest CT with contrast.

So, I get the CT and it took an hour or so and a nurse comes by and asks me if I know what a pulmonary embolism is and I told her that it is a blood clot in the lungs with that she said good we are going to do an echo-cardiogram to confirm the blood clot...I have had an echo before but this one was close to 40 minutes and I knew something was up. Not only did they find the blood clot they also found a pulmonary aneurism that is too small to be surgically repaired.

They start me on coumadin to get my INR up and it was 1.89 on Saturday. So I was also on lovenox until the coumadin gets to a therapeutic level.

I ended up with a 5 day hospital stay.

I go out to the coumadin clinic at my local hospital tomorrow for an INR check. So, right now just working on getting better and back to normal.
