Hi Carol! I'm from Seattle, WA., went the self-pay route, and while I know it varies from state to state and even Dr to Dr, I just wanted to let you know my surgery (lap RNY) was predicted to cost $24,600+. Which I had to pay in advance. It ended up actually costing just under $18,000. I'm still waiting for the refund! Seriosly tho, they audited the costs as they were amazed it came in so cheap! Bottom line is, it all depends on your health, # of co-morbidities and weight at the time of surgery. Open surgery costs less as well, but it has many downsides, longer hospital/recovery time being one. I lost 10 lbs pre-op, have the ideal body type for Lap, walked within 3 hrs of my surgery and was checked out 2 days after my surgery. Oh, I have a slight case of asthma and I am slightly hypothyroid, being my only co-morbidities. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
