Six Weeks Out

Jan 01, 2011

I have not been on the OH site much since surgery, mostly because I wanted to focus on recovering from surgery. Well…I am six weeks out and down 40 pounds. The surgery went very well and the hospital staff at Good Samaritan was by far the best I have ever had. Between the pain meds and anti-anxiety drugs, the first three days at the hospital are a total blur. I was pretty looped up when they wheeled me into the OR, and the last thing I remember before they put me out was telling the nurse not to put my head in the microwave because I had foil on it. Oh well :)

This has been a crazy six weeks though. I healed very quickly and have been able to get in my full fluids, vitamins, and protein since one week after surgery. I have not vomited once, although I have had some severe nausea, which I finally figured out was due to the protein shakes. I have tried 5 or 6 different kinds looking for one that did not make me sick, but I have given up and am now getting my protein from food instead. Thank god for greek yogurt and low fat cheese! I was also very, very tired and slept for about 16 hours a day, but at about 4 weeks out I had a burst of energy and no longer need three naps a day.

And I even made it through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years without a single cheat – not even one cookie! I am so happy this is the first holiday season that I not only didn’t gain weight, I lost it!

Getting Closer...

Oct 31, 2010

I start the two week liquid diet tomorrow! I have packed my food to take to work already, and it actually amounted to more than I thought. Here is what our pre-op diet looks like:

Breakfast: 8 oz protein shake (with milk) and ½ cup cream of wheat or oatmeal
Snack: 6 oz yogurt (nonfat no sugar added)
Lunch: 8 oz protein shake (with milk) and vegetarian soup
Snack: ½ cup fat free sugar free pudding
Dinner: 8 oz protein shake (with milk) and vegetable salad with fat free dressing
or steamed veggies

Snack: sugar free jello or popsicle
May also have ½ cup fruit twice a day

Maybe it won’t be that bad since there is some food mixed in…or at least that is what I will keep telling myself….

Getting Close...

Oct 23, 2010

Surgery is scheduled for November 16th, which means I start my two week pre-op liquid diet on November 1st. This sounds even harder than the surgery itself, but luckily I have some wonderful friends here in Cincinnati. Two of them at work have even volunteered to do the liquid diet with me, even though they are not having WLS so that I have the support to make it through! Now that is friendship!
