BEING OVERWEIGHT FOR THE MAJORITY OF MY LIFE HAS BEEN HELL FOR ME!!!
I started gaining weight around the age of 7. My parents never really told me what I could and could not eat. I mean basically no restrictions. My father was overweight but my mother wasn't. My mom cooked all the things a southern man liked. Fried chicken, greens, desserts etc etc. We ate what she cooked....
The summer before my senior year of high school I dropped from a size 22 to a 13/14. I didn't diet or anything. I was just very active....
Right after I graduated from high school, I got pregnant. And that was it for me. My weight just escalated from there. I would lose weight then gain more back....
2006 was a stressful year for me!! My father was dieing of cancer, I had to have a hysterectomy, and to add "insult to injury" I was having relationship issues! My father passed away October 3, 2006 and I had a hysterectomy exactly one month later. I lost approximately 70 pounds within 2-3 months. The stress and depression made me not have an appetite. I was so happy that I lost so much weight, even if it wasn't done in a healthy way. After I got through the stress and depression, I met a WONDERFUL person who loved me for me!! She didn't care if I lost weight or not. When we started dating I was 230lbs. I am now back up to 270lbs. On top of the weight gain, my medical issues got worse....
When I was in my 20's I didn't have any medical issues due to my weight. But now that I'm almost 40, I have diabetes, high blood cholesterol, sleep apnea and swollen ankles and feet. It has got to the point that if I don't do something NOW I could be in a lot of TROUBLE!!
After the 4th doctor told me that I needed to look into weight loss surgery due to my health, I made up my mind that I would do it. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover the surgery. NO MATTER WHAT!! I think it should be against the law to refuse people the surgery when their life basically depends on it. LUCKILY I have THE BEST MOTHER IN THE WORLD!! I am able to get the surgery and pay cash for it!!!!
I haven't made up my mind 100% if I want the lap band or gastric bypass. But I am in the process of getting the tests done before I have the surgery!!
I AM EXCITED AND SCARED AT THE SAME TIME!! I haven't been a healthy weight/size since I was 7 years old. THIS IS GOING TO BE A NEW START FOR ME!! I AM FINALLY GOING TO DO IT!!!!
