100 lbs. down at 4 month mark

Apr 23, 2009

I can hardly believe the scales at Dr. Shina's office!   I started at 428 according to Suburban Hospital's scales (after surgery and before going home) - in 4 months I have taken that down 100 lbs.  I can breathe, move and take care of myself like a normal person.  I still have horribly arthritic knees, but I can walk and stand much farther than I could in December.  If this is a dream, don't wake me up.  Dr. Shina set a goal weight for me for the first time.  I am aiming for his goal of 165 - I think I can do it!

This is exciting!

Mar 09, 2009

I haven't done a blog before, but today I had a "WOW" moment and it's inspired me to write.  I've lost 75 pounds since December 19 and feel SO much better!  My WOW was when I got in the car to drive my daughter to school and found I didn't need my seatbelt extender!  It was funny because I was not the last person to drive my car and I had to adjust the drivers' seat before I could get in, then I just buckled my seatbelt with no problem at all before I noticed the extender was in my driver's door side pocket.  I thought to myself,  "Huh?"  I reached down to my right and felt the connection and realized I was "NORMAL" - I could actually buckle my seatbelt without any effort at all.  Plenty of room to spare!

Before today my main WOWs were being able to breathe MUCH more easily, being able to walk 5 times as far and stand 5 times as long as I had been able to in December.  I was almost an invalid - had been using a walker/rollator to get around when I had to walk more than 30 or 40 feet.  I feel so much freer now!  Vanity was not my main issue, but I am starting to care about my appearance more now.  I can reach to scratch my back now and do other personal care issues (LOL) that were becoming impossible because of the fat.

I still have a long way to go, but I am on my way and feeling great!
