A New Attitude

Apr 10, 2007

Okay, if I had updated this blog about 2 weeks ago you would have found a helplessly depressed bandster, but thanks to my friends on the lap band forum I have a NEW ATTITUDE.  I was really depressed that my fill had been rescheduled twice and my appetite was back and I was at a plateau with my weight loss.  I quickly found out that everyone goes through this period before they are properly restricted.  I now have 1 cc in my 10 cc band and am still not feeling enough restriction but I have taken control of my eating habits and am exercising.  I am currently down 25 pounds and am setting new goals for myself and following the post op bariatric diet a lot more strict.  Focusing on getting all my protein in and exercising at least 3 days a week.  Boy they weren't lying when they said that this is only a tool and you  have to do certain things to be successful.  I am setting a goal for myself to be down at least 100 lbs. by October  yes I know big goal but with hard work and perserverance I know I can do it.  I'm looking at the bright side...I am already down 25 so I just have 75 more to go!!!!!  I will keep you posted...I have another fill scheduled for Monday!!!!!

MY SURGERY DAY

The Surgery
Let me start by saying...I am the biggest baby about pain, shots, hospitals, etc.  So if I say it was no big deal you gotta believe me "It was NO BIG DEAL"
My Surgery on 2/13/07.  I arrived at the check-in desk at about 8 am.  They took my parents and I back to a room where I was told to take off all my clothes and put on the hospital gown.  at about 8:45 I buzzed the nurse to see what time I could expect to go to surgery since my surgery time had been moved up.  She told me that another surgery was going over time but she expected me to go back very soon..NOT but anyway they came and took my vitals and a urine sample for the pregnancy test.  I relaxed and watched T.V. for about an hour.  Then out of no where the transport guy came to take me to the pre-surgery holding area.  I had to say see you later to my parents.  I was unusually brave and calm at this point.  There was a peace within me that I was doing the RIGHT thing!!!!  In the pre-surgery area the nurse immediated started my I.V. and then about 4 people came and asked me the same questions...r u pregnant...what surgery are you having...whose you doctor whats your name and date of birth..so just get ready to be repeating those things.  My doctor Garth Davis, M.D. came to ask if I was ready and told me they would be taking me back shortly.  The anesthsiologist and nurse rolled me to outside the operating room and they discovered the pregnancy test had not made it to the chart...After some quick investigation the concrete evidence was there that I WAS NOT PREGNANT and we were ready to ROCK and ROLL.  The anesthsiologist gave me an injection into my iv of the GOOD STUFF. From there I remember moving myself on the surgery table and asking the nurse how long before I was out.  She said not long at all and she wasn't kidding because I looked at the huge flat screen  monitor on the wall and then the overhead lights and remember fighting through the blurr to open my eyes in recovery.  I was in some pain when I first woke up but the nurses did a great job of taking care of that.  I also remember that darn monitor that tells if you are breathing deeply or not and the nurse kept saying "Breathe deeply Miss Joseph..that beeping means you are not breathing Miss Joseph" and I wanted to slap her but she was just doing her job LOL!!!!  From there I went to do the Barium Swallow.  The stuff doesn't taste the best and the last thing you feel like doing is sliding on another table and turning on your side but you gotta do it.  From there I went to my room...the doctor was going to discharge me but my loving mother told me I should spend a night just to be sure everything is okay.  Let me tell you you get no rest in the hospital..they constantly wake you up...but one time that I woke up there was a Dr. Mc Dreamy standing there...I will be looking him up when I get my new body LOL!!!! he came to check my incisions and see how I was doing!! That was a treat!!! The only complaint I had was back pain really.  I mean don't get me wrong I was sore where my incisions were and it hurt a little to move around but my back was aching the most.  They kept me comfortable with pain meds and I slowing sipped on a little water and then some diet green tea.  Never vommitted or anything!!!!  Went back to work a week later..this past Tuesday and lost 13 lbs. during the first week after surgery via the lovely liquid diet you are on!!! And now my journey begins...The Evolution of CEE-CEE!!!!!!
