Six months out
Oct 28, 2007
I am a little more than six months out now. I am doing great. My blood sugar is better and so is my cholesterol. I have more energy and can move faster. I am now able to walk a mile in 16 minutes. Before I did it in 20 but I was all out of breath. I am trying to go to the gym a few tiimes a week. For the first time that I can remember I am wearing a size 7-8. I couldn't wait to get to size 10 and now I'm below that. I am so glad I had the surgery. I really enjoy the support group meetings too. I've met a bunch of great people, some of which are on this site, too.

Hi. Tomorrow I will be 20 weeks out and I am feeling pretty good. I am down 55 pounds and am wearing a size 7-8. I don't think I even wore a 7-8 when I was in high school. It feels great. I still can't eat very much, but I guess that is a good thing. I try to plan my lunches each day so I have everything with me that I need. I am a little disappointed because my doctor told me she doesn't think I am a true Type II diabetic or my Diabetes would have resolved already. She thinks I am a Type 1.5 which is a new type. As time has gone by I don't make as much Insulin as I used to but I am not quite a Type 1 because I do make some Insulin. Oh well. At least it will be better controlled with the weight loss. My cholesterol and triglicerides are great.
Almost 17 weeks out

Hi all.
Monday will be 17 weeks for me and I am doing well. I am a little surprised at how little I can eat, but I guess that's a good thing. My size 11-12 pants now need belts. I haven't worn 11-12 pants in about 24 years. My hair is thinning out and I had it cut a little yesterday. It looks a little better. I can now have fruit but I east so little that I barely can fit anything besides the protein. I tend to get indigestion easily. I am making sure to have two protein drinks a day to make sure I get it in.

I am now 13 1/2 weeks out. I am feeling great. I am down 44 pounds. My insulin intake is down more than 50%. I still have hope that I will get off the insulin some time. I am down from Size 18 pants to 11-12. I haven't been size 11-12 since 1984. I still can't eat very much, but I make sure I get in at least two protein shakes a day to get in my protein.

Hi all. I made it to the loser's bench. I am down 12 pounds. The surgery seemed to go well. I was at W. Boca Medical Center. They were going to put me in ICU as a routine thing but their ICU was under construction so they put me on a floor with a roommate and called it ICU. I call it the "fake ICU. Some of the nurses were very good and then...........I had the nurse from hell. She was a night nurse. She thought I had the audacity to ask her for anything. She just wanted to do the minimum and not be bothered. She never answered the help button. When she did she said "You are not the only patient I have." One time, had to go to the bthroom and she just wouldn't come so I ripped everything off and went. It was so wrong. I think if you don't want to be a nurse you shouldn't. One of the nurses I had to teach to use the hospital's Accheck machine. (that thought scared me). They did not have an Endocrinologist on staff and did not have much knowledge at all on controling diabetes. I was very happy to get home because my husband, Sammy, is the best help I could every have. I went for a swallow test the day after surgery but my doctor wants me to have another one on Monday, April 23 because he says he is paranoid. That's fine with me for him to be extra cautious. He is a great doctor. I am still on my insulin pump but since I am a Type Two diabetic I am hopeful that I will get off it some time. Are there any of you who are Type Two diabetics that were on a pump that got off it af ter surgery? If so, please let me know. Thanks, Hillary
