Two weeks out

Oct 27, 2009

Well I am two weeks out and things are going well.  I had a setback when I went for my one week follow-up visit.  My main incision was infected and the surgeon had to reopen the incision to drain the infection.  It was mighty disgusting. lol.  Now I have to have home health come every day for 4-6 weeks to clean the wound and change the packing.  My insurance changes over on November 1st to a new company and I'm afraid they won't cover the home health visits.  Can you believe it's about $200 per day to have them come and just change the dressing?  Wow....I need to get into that business.  They are never here more than 30 minutes.  I go back on Thursday, October 29th to have the surgeon check out the progress of the wound. I lost 20 lbs the first week after surgery and hopefully I will be under 400 lbs for the first time in over 2 years when they weigh me this time.  So far I am down nearly 60 lbs from my high weight.  It's still hard to eat three meals a day but I'm trying.  I seem to get indigestion the minute I start eating anything.  So far refried beans, deli turkey, tuna, an occasional egg, and string cheese are the only things in my diet.  I'm doing much better at getting all of my protein and water in this week.  The Nectar protein powder isn't bad but I still have to make myself choke it down.  I exercised every day after my surgery until they had to reopen the wound and now I am on orders for no exercise.  It's a setback but I am really upbeat and happy I had the surgery.  I am starting to get cravings.  When my wife cooks for herself my mouth waters but I can eat very little and am sticking to the foods I am allowed for now.  What I wouldn't give for a piece of pizza or some fried potatoes. lol.  But I am committed to doing the right things....especially since I can't exercise right now.  Overall my attitude is great and I'm committed and getting through this setback fine.   Just wanted to update my progress.
