Vomit

Dec 19, 2008

Well it finally happened. I ate something that made me sick. Tonight my wife made some hamburger helper. She used really lean beef so I felt ok with trying it.  I fixed a plate with one table spoon full hoping that would fill me. After having about 4 small bites I started feeling like I needed to burp but couldn't. That went on for about 15 minutes and then I felt the pressure in my chest. I went to the bathroom just in case but didn't actually think I was going to vomit but after leaning over the toilet for 10 minutes it happened and i have to say it was the best thing ever. I started feeling better immediately. Never thought I would be glad to vomit but I guess all the rules have changed.

21 days on Monday

Dec 14, 2008

Well Monday will make 3 weeks. Wow it’s hard to believe it has only been 21 days, seems like a life time when it comes to making life changes in eating habits. I can’t say it’s been hard at all. This was my first full week back at work and man was it full. I found myself completely worn out by the end of the day. It was like I had been in an Ironman all day. Eating went pretty good at work. I stuck to soups everyday and apple sauce and protein for snacks. It was interesting managing eating around other people and not drawing to much attention, so I was really glad when Friday came around. I had my first egg on Saturday and that didn’t go so well. It seems like it just got stuck somewhere between the entrance or exit of my pouch, I couldn’t really tell all I know is it felt horrible. That’s the first time in my life I would have welcomed a good vomit, so it maybe a while before I try that again. I think so far my favorite pureed has been the refried beans. I put a little taco bell sauce in there and wham it’s like a burrito with out the wrap. I haven’t snacked much at all, its enough just to get in all the water and protein each day. The closest thing I have had to snacks has been Carnation Instant Breakfast mix after dinner. That is so good to me and I get the protein to boot.   I hope to post more mid week.

Something new

Yeah Just had Cream of Wheat. I could only eat about 6 spoons full before I was ready to stop. It was my first time ever eating Cream of Wheat and I have to say its not that bad. I used milk to make it instead of water to get in a few more grams of protein.

12 days out

Well Monday will make two weeks since I had my WLS. I also have to go back to work on Monday so I am just a little concerned on how I will do there. My plan is to work out a eating schedule for next week, good for me I will be able to start on Pureed foods even though i have read mixed things about what pureed really is.  I would be interested in seeing what others ate starting there 3rd week.

First Official Post

Nov 28, 2008

Hello all, this is my first official post after having the bypass on Monday. I will have to say that my experience at the hospital was a good one, no major issues with anyone other than one slightly salty nurse. I had very little pain and was released on Tuesday to go home. I did find out that the IV pain medicine really made me feel bad, (sad and depressed) so I had to let that go quickly. I haven’t had any real pain issue since I have been home either but gas and intestinal rumbling has been a bear. I just don’t know what to do about it. I can drink a few sips of water and its like world war 3 going on in my gut so that has been a damper on my sprits but I hope that’s all normal and will get better with time.
