update

May 25, 2009

Hello everyone!
It has been a very long time since I last posted here. I am doing GREAT! I feel wonderful. I have had no issues or complications from surgery. I started at 300 lbs and Im now at 157. I so want those last seven pounds to be able to say Im literally half of what I was. Ill get them its just slower now. I find I can eat just about anything now with a few exceptions beef being one of them. It has been a roller coaster journey of emotions. I can say there has not been one day that I have felt I made a mistake. It is the best thing I ever did for myself. It is odd really truly liking myself these days. I love being able to keep up with my two girls. We have done a fair amount of traveling and are getting ready to leave again for California in a couple weeks. I can remember when I would wear the tightest girlde I could get my hands on to try and get that airline seat belt on. It is nice to know I can go just the way I am and sit down and and actually see my seat beside me without any girdle and be able to pull on that strap and have so much extra left over. Oh, yes and not to walk side ways down the isle to get to my seat. It is all worth it to not have that cake and ice cream that I used to love so much. If any of you out there are struggling with the idea of should I do this I can say for me it was my saving grace to life.

Blessings to you all,
Criss

4 month update

Dec 02, 2008

Hello Everyone: It has been some time since I have took the time to update. I first want to say thank you to OH for such a great get together and learning experience. It was great to be with such a great bunch of fun people in Houston. I was thrilled to get to meet a few of you I had only seen pictures of before. I made some new friends and that is something you can never have enough of.

Ok, the update....Im 4 month out and I feel great! I can now eat most things with caution. I still can not even look at an egg without feeling sick and before surgery I ate them everyday. I still have a bit of trouble with milk, even skim. I did great through the holiday and even managed to lose 2 lbs.  My family are all what I feel is crazy they say nothing to me about the loss just get that stupid stare so I try and flaunt it when possible. I even dressed up for the holiday meal, wearing my push up bra and the whole place was looking. Its funny when THEY know you look good! There are things that still amaze me. The biggest thing is getting in the car and looking down and seeing my belly is so far away from the steering wheel! It was also nice flying to Houston this time to see Dr. Garth and sliding into the plane seat and knowing that belt was going to fit with room left over. Oh Happy Day!
It was great to see you again Sarah while I was there. You keep up the great work you look wonderful.

Take care everyone,

Home from Surgery

Aug 08, 2008

Hello: Sorry so long to update. I had surgery with Dr. Garth RNY on July 23. I only spent one night in the hospital. I was up and walking in no time. I had no complications in any way. I rarely used the pain button. I also had a repair of my umbilical hernia.
The bypass was a sheer snap but this belly button thing has been a real pain in the butt. It pulls, it hurts and is just real uncomfortable most of the time. I now have battled an infection in it since I have came home. I am now on antibiotics and it is getting better. It hasnt slowed me down much as I have been out and about everyday since coming home but I have used the support belt they gave me in the hospital. Its a wonderful tool after surgery for all those going to have it but you have to ask for it.
I am losing about 2 pounds a day right now. I know I better enjoy that now because it wont last forever. I have been told to take it easy with the infection and hernia issues so I am trying.
I want to say a special thanks to Miss Sarah for coming to see me when I was at the hotel and bored to death. I think we shall be friends for many years.
I truly thought this was going to be harder than it is. I know Im going to say its the best thing I ever did for myself. There are some rough spots and every day varies but over all I would tell anyone to go for it.
I can say there are a few issues I have about things while in the hospital. The main thing is they dont monitor you enough after the first "drink" which is after the barrium swallow to check for leaks. They gave me jello and some lemonade and 20 minutes later they said ok you can go home. I think they should really keep you for the full 2 nights to see how things are going to go as far as swallowing and making sure you get the liquids in. They also didnt tell me to walk much I just knew I had to get my butt up and do it. I never saw to many in the halls walking but with no reminders I guess some wouldnt.
Well, I have ranted for awhile now but thanks for all the support and kind letters. Move over on that losers bench here I come!

Hello everyone out there. I have so enjoyed reading and learning from all of you. Tomorrow I get on a plane and head for Houston for my preop vivit with Dr. Garth. It is amazing how fast the time has fown by since I got my approval yet trying to get the approval time seemed to stand still. I guess I will start the lovely liquid diet for 2 weeks soon.
