Almost one year!!

Dec 02, 2008

Well we are almost at the one year point.  I am now 8 pounds away from my goal and have lost a whopping 117 pounds.  That is equivilent to one 16 year old daughter.  I just cant believe it.  I am sorry to say that i do not dump even when i eat things i shouldnt.  Not that i do it often but i did have a piece of pie at Thanksgiving and have had cake a few times on special occassions.  My eating habits have drastically changed and i know that i can occassionally have a treat as long as i contine the eating habits that i have developed.  I hit a plateu for the last three months.  I would go up and down within a 5 pound range.  I think some of it may be due to the fact that i am no longer riding my bike everyday due to the time change.  It gets dark by the time i have the time to ride.  Well it finally broke last week and i dropped two more pounds.  I hope it continues.  I started off wearing size 22 - 24 and i am now wearing smalls, and size 6 and even 4's.  I cant believe it.  I even can fit in my daughters clothes now and she is not happy.  Of course i cant get them buttoned and they sure dont look pretty, but i got them on nontheless.  My daughter even told me that ever since i had the surgery, all i do is buy myself clothes and not her.  I had to laugh because she is right, i needed to buy clothes.  My son even calls me skeletor.  Now i just hope that i can keep it off once and for all.

7 Months

Jul 14, 2008

Well it has been almost 7 months now.  I finally reached the 100 pounds mark.  I just cant believe it and never in a million years did i think i would ever get here.  I feel fantastic and ride my bike almost every day.  Couldnt do it 7 months ago.  I am wearing size 10 and mediums and actually fit in a size 4/6 small pair of stretchy capris.  I went on vacation in June and it was really a challenge trying to eat.  I didnt have any problems with the food, but the cost and quantity of it was an issue.  I hated paying full price for a buffet meal when i could only eat $3.00 worth of food.  My daughter and i shared many meals.  The second part of my vacation, we were camping so i was better able to manage what i was eating.  I walked, swam and rode my bike a lot and after two weeks I lost 6 pounds.  I have hit a few plateus recently.  I teatered between 5 pounds up and down for two weeks and then it finally broke and got me to that 100 pounds i was waiting for. I gave away all my old clothes and was sorry to realize i didnt have any old pants to compare sizes.  I found a paid of shorts in our travel trailer from last summer and took a picture of my daughter in one leg and me in the other.  It is just amazing.  My daugter is so worried i will be stealing her clothes.  I doubt it, but who knows, i may someday fit in a size 3.

4 Months

Apr 27, 2008

Wow, I cant believe how fast the time is flying by.  I am about 4 months and 10 days since my surgery.  I have lost a whopping 75 pounds and i feel fantastic.  Will post some pics as soon as my daughter gets a new camera for her birthday next week.  I still cant eat eggs and it is still a challenge to get all the protien and water in.  I am planning a vacation in June so i am worried about how i am going to manage all of that and finding the right stuff to eat.  I've had to buy some new clothes and was thrilled when i tried on a pair of capris that were a size 8/10.  I havent seen that size in more than 17 years.  My legs are the skinniest part of my body right now.  I think i am definately going to have to have at the very least a tummy tuck.  My thighs and arms need serious help a well, but i guess we will have to wait and see how things go.  I have been taking a kick box class once a week and it certainly helps but at my age, i doubt the skin is going to tighten up on its own.

3 Months

Mar 24, 2008

Three months have gone by and i am now down 58 pounds.  Wow, never thought it would be so easy.  I had to break down and buy some clothes as everything was swimming on me.  I went shopping two weeks ago and those clothes are getting big already.  I never thought i would be happy to be a large instead of an XXL.  I am eating well and tolerate most foods except eggs.  I love eggs, but they make me sick every time i try to eat them.  I went out to eat for the first time and ordered an appetizer.  It was Chicken wrapped in lettuce.  It was good but i couldnt eat all of it and ended up getting sick when i got home.  The chicken had some kind of terryaki sauce on it and it just didnt agree with me.  Funny thing is the things that made me gain so much weight in the first place no longer appeal to me or even taste good.  I guess that is a good thing!!

2 Months

Feb 20, 2008

Two months have flown by.  I have lost 43 pounds so far.  I can hardly believe it.  Although I can see the loss, I have only dropped one size and most people havent noticed the weight loss.  I saw some folks i havent seen since before my surgery yesterday and not one person noticed anything other than i had my hair cut.

I had my daughter take another picture and looking at the picture, i still dont see that much change.  She tries to reassure me that although you cant really tell in the pictures, you can certainly see it in person.

I am not really that worried about it anyhow.  I feel great and have much more energy than i have in years.

I feel very good, eating is fine.  I am not hungry at all.  I have a lot of trouble getting all the water in, but i keep trying.  Still having problems with the blood pressure.  I will give it another week and then i will head back to the doctor.  I am not certain that my home blood pressure monitor is working right due to the cuff being too large now.   WOOOO HOOOOO.

I am just about 6 weeks out

The surgery itself went well.  I was really not nervous at all.  However they had trouble getting me breathing again and my worst fear was realized when i woke up with breathing tubes down my throat.  Of course i panicked and made it worse but somehow i was determined to get those tubes out.  I spent two days in ICU and was lucky enough to have another high school friend as my nurse.  She was awsome!!!  I was sent home two days before Christmas.

I somehow got through all the liquid and pureed phase and i am now on soft foods for another three weeks.  I am down 31 pounds and i feel good.  I only got sick once when i ate eggs.  Apparently eggs no longer agree with me.  I am also having a very hard time regulating my blood pressure.  I have had three medication changes since my surgery and it is still high.  One more change today and we will see how it goes.
