Polar Bear Fa Life!

Feb 26, 2007

Well I did it yall.  I oficially joined the Polar Bear club, seems like I should have done it before I lost the weight, so I would have a litlltle more insulation you know?  Anyway, it was fun, and I was one of four brothas out there.  Wonder why???  LOL.. Yesterday, I sent my wife a message that I was cooking dinner and it would be ready by a certain time. I knew she was skeptical but I know I am a bad man on the stove..  I made her my special Sea Bass with Wild Rice.  Here is the recipe

Darrin's Sea Bass With Wild Rice Recipe!
1 teaspoon Garlic Flakes
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon of lemon pepper seasoning
1 1/2 tablespoon of i cant beleive its not butter or butter, its your call
1 pinch of Sea Salt
2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
1 can of stewed tomatoes
1/2 can of spinach
1/4-1/2 cup of wild rice
1/2 to 1lbs of Sea Bass or other whitefish, I prefer sea bass cause its good! (depending on your pouch, I honestly cant eat that much! and remember this recipe is for two)

Directions:
Heat grill pan to high heat. Melt butter into small bowl in microwave, and add garlic, onion powder, lemon pepper seasoning, 1 tablespoon of olive oil,  and parsley. Stir until ingredients are well blended.  Place Sea Bass onto skillett, and then lightly brush mixture onto fish. Flip Sea Bass and brush remaining mixture onto other side.  Once fish has become flakey to the fork, add tomatoes to saucepan, lightlly grilling tomatoes.

In saucepan add 1 1/3 cups of water, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil and rice, cook until boil, then simmer.  Add spinach and additional garlic flakes to rice while simmering.

Serve and eat!  It looks really good too!

Go GO GO COLTS!!!!

Jan 23, 2007

So as I normally do, I have a game party at my house, talk about the cardiac Colts????!!!??!  Anyway, because I usually have a fair amount of people come over, nowadaysI usually make a big pot of something.  This time my wife got into the act and we made what we call:

Tiffany & Darrin's High Protein Chicken Chilli!  (It lasts all week baby!)

Here are the ingredients:

4 Boneless Chicken Breast Fillets (trim off the fat, if there is any)
4 Portobello Mushroom Caps
Chilli Powder, (add to suit)
1 Can of Black Beans
1 Can of Kidney Beans
Garlic (add to suit)
1 small Vidalia Onion
1 Large can of Peeled Tomatoes
Olive Oil
6 cups of water

Cut chicken breasts into small squares, add olive oil to skillet and also add garlic and 1/4 of cut up onion.  Simmer until chicken is partially cooked throughout.  Dump entire skillet contents into large pot add 6 cups of water to pot.  Add 2 tblsp of Chili Powder to pot and let cook to a roux.    Once that is done add remainder of cut up vidalia and some garlic powder (depends how you like garlic its good for you sooo...) Add cut up tomatoes and portobello caps and let continue to simmer another 10 mins.  Add black beans and kidney beans and let simmer another 15 mins.  Serve :  Feeds 8 people, and 1 WLS  patient like no other!!    And you should have enough left to eat on all week!!!

After we ate this chilli, and it was so good, we knew that the Colts were gonna pull it out!  Also, I got a new protein shake and it is good as I dont know what!!! It is called Lean Body and they sell it at GNC, it has 40g of protein per drink, with 0g of sugar!

1st Day Back

Jan 16, 2007

Well today was my first day back in the financial advisor grind.  When I put on my suit, it was so  big it almost looked like a clown suit!  I was amazed at how much I have shrunk in size!  It is amazing!  Oh and the compliments, "Darrin, you look so good."  "Darrin you look great and healthy!"  I really like this weight loss thing, it makes you feel pretty good!

Who are you again???

Jan 13, 2007

Today, was the Colts game, and boy I am a die hard fanatic.  I knew I was going to have some people over so I decide to go to one of my old pizza hangouts, Harsi's, here in Indy to get a couple of pizzas for my company.  Well, I get there, say hello to the owner like always and I start talking to him.  He is a bit apprehensive in our conversation until I am ready to pay. That is when I pull out my credit card, andhe looks at my name and says, Hey, I know another guy named Marion who comes in here do you know him?"  I was like "yeah thats me!" He was like, "No he is a bigger guy, his mom and sister always come in here" and I was like,  "yeah man thats me!!"  He asked for my license and when he saw it he was like that is you!  Lookin good man..   Boy did that make me feel good!

Esophogitis Overcame!

Jan 07, 2007

Whew!  This last week has been something else.  I have finally found out what was making me puke like crazy, and we have a remedy.  Thank God for insurance!  Thank God for a good job.  And thank God for Nexium... I had to put it in that order because the co-pay on that stuff is $75!!!!   I was like, damn, if I was poor, I guess I would be ass out hunh?????  Thank you Jesus again!  Anyway, I found out I lost some more weight, which brings my total loss since surgery to 67 lbs... I am almost back at my playing weight.  I am eating food, no longer pureed, but I am still taking it easy.

Also, I am glad that I have taken the time off work after the surgery.  It has really helped me explore and learn and address issues about how I was feeling before the surgery.  Now that I look back, I can see that I was beginning to become a recluse.  Avoiding going out, avoiding enaging new prospects to become clients. In my line of work, if I don't engage people, or reach out and don't exude confidence, I would go hungry, pardon the pun.  It is amazing how when your weight gets out of control, so many other aspects of your life and esteem get out of control as well.  I honestly feel that if I would have never gotten this surgery, that  I would have died in a couple of years a very fat and a very unhappy young man.  I am thankful to God for putting me in the position to take advantage of this tool, and I will not let myself slip away.  This is a blessing and I am thankful for it.

I have spoken to several people who have been successful and they told me to make a big pot of soup or stew and eat on that.  It makes it easier to get your meals in.  I made a pot and you know what, it is easier to get my meals in, and it is not to hard to digest either!! So I made up a recipe for a high protein low-fat off the muscle beef stew!

Here it is:
1 Big Lean Piece of Sirloin Steak
1 Large Can of Tomatoes
4 Portobello Mushroom Caps
8 oz of Snow Peas- (Fresh Baby)
1 Small Vidalia Onion
2 Ears of Corn ( easy to come by in Indiana lol)
2 cans of Black Beans
1 pinch of salt
6 dashes of thyme
3 oz of Olive Oil
Pepper, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder to taste

Ok, trim all of the fat that is remaining from sirloin off and trash it.  Slice steak into small slivers, sautee in thyme, olive oil, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until steak is browned adn add to large stew pot.  Cut up vegetables and add to pot.  Add 6 cans of water to mixture, let simmer for 1hr, then eat.  It is off the muscle yall!!!

So I go to the hospital this morning for an endoscopy to find out what the heck is wrong with me..  Am I constricting, am I closing up, but no....   I have what is called esophogitis reflux...  So they prescribe me Nexium, which is about $75.00 after insurance!!!!   And they tell me in two months I should start feeling better..  What a gip!!!  Actually though, I do feel better.  My doctors office has changed their tune from saying it was the ketosis, to it is psychosematic ( all in my head) .  Oh well whatever it is, I hope my throw up days are far behind me!

The Day After.....

Dec 28, 2006

Well today is thhe day after going to the hospital.  they didnt keep me overnite which is a good thing i think.,  They did however give me a different Anti nausea medicine.  This is a med you can take sublingually it is called Zofran ODT 4mg, that you take 1 every 6 hours.  It is much better than getting something rammed up your asshole and you still feel like you have to puke!  When I first got to the hospital they put me on an iv drip of that other medicine, It starts with a p.  Soon after that I was puking all over the place.  Man I feel much better now.  My wife got mad at me because she said I snapped at her.  But when we were in the hospital room and I strted throwing up I asked her to press the nurse button.  While she stood there watching me puke blood.  Then I screamed at her CALL THE F*CKING NURSE NOW!!  She said that was snapping at her.  She also then compared the fact that I had been throwing up for four days straight to her morning sickness.  I told her "Babe, I know your morning sickness was bad for you , but trust me, it wasn't nothin like this!"  She folded her arms and stormed out of the room.  Oh well....

Gues who's bizac!

Dec 28, 2006

just got back from the hospital where the Dr put me on an IV so I can get more fluids in me.  They also gave me an oral nausea medication... Because initially I was given a suppository. Talk about being uncomfrotable.  My wife would help me with it, but talk about feeling like the new prison inmate..  It seemed like every other hour she was putting on another rubber glove and telling me to spread!  Whew!!!! I am glad that is OVER! Now I am able to hold fluids down again, because I am no longer dehyrdated, and my nurse keeps saying its the ketosis.  Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you, at the hospital I jumped on the scale and I am -54lbs!!!!!!  I looked at the cross on the wall in my emergency treatment room and I said, Jesus help me.  You promised that if I focus on you you will take care of me.  I guess thats why I am home!  Thank you Jesus.
