So my story goes like this.  I have always been overweight, the largest person in my class or workplace.  I grew up in a nuclear family, my mom, brother and I always overweight.  My mom was often on a diet.  Until I grew up and moved out and started cooking, I didn't know that food (like hamburgers, steak, etc), could be cooked in the oven.  Our food was always fried in a pan (long before t-fal, so lots of fat always was used).  When I was 25, I had enough of being morbidly obese.  I weighed 318lbs.  I saw a surgeon regarding an RNY, but he scared me with the facts, and really encouraged a lapband.  So I took out a line of credit, and did the surgery.  I followed the rules for a while, but I was never satiated.  Fills never worked, they always were too tight, or not tight enough.  I could always eat a normal amount of food.  I did lose 65 lbs in 7 months.  It didn't take long to gain that back.  Needless to say, I was very discouraged.  I had the lapband done in 2001.  So, fast forward to now.  I had a wonderful little boy in 2003, but have failed at conceiving since then.  So, once I sat down and realized that since I hit my 30's, I have been developing health problems, such as severe sleep apnea, PCOS, joint and back pain, mild hypertension, and the list goes on, I decided it was time to do something.  I had a revision done December 10, 2008, by Dr. Fitzer in Utica, NY.  It was complicated by the fact that my band had prolapsed quite some time ago, and had lots of scar tissue around it, as well, while in the hospital I developed C-Diff, so my stay ended up being about 6 days in hospital.  This surgery has changed my life and my families life, for the better.
