When I decided to get the lap band I was at a bleak point in my life, I had just quit a job I had been at for 8 1/2 years. I worked for a brokerage firm and have my series 7 license but being overweight in that world is a nightmare, all of my brokers did not really want to work with me even though I was the best assistant and was always on time and did the best job but because of how I looked they were ashamed to have me as their assistant. When I quit I thought what am I going to do now no one will hire me looking like this but I did get a job in a call center where it seemed like a lot of people were overweight so I felt at home, but then one of my teammates had this wonderful surgery called the lap band and she was doing so good that I was jealous of her, I wanted that surgery for myself (in high school I was a cheerleader, class president, etc...) so when I went home for reunions or when I ran into someone that used to know me they would not talk behind my back. I talked to my fellow employee and she gave me the name of the doctor who did her surgery and I thought I'll go talk to them and see if I can get approved for this surgery and guess what I did!! It was wonderful, but he did tell me I would not be able to eat hamburgers, hotdogs, and foods like that but I said so what, I'll be thin again!! So I had the surgery in January of 06 and as of today Nov 07 I have lost 141 lbs., I have gone from a size 24 to a size 8.  I know this surgery is slow compared to the other one but it gives your body time to adjust and I did not put the weight on overnight so I did not expect to take it off overnight. Just recently I visited my old brokers at the brokerage firm where I used to work and they were all over me wanting to know how I did it and telling me how "fantastic" I looked, eat your heart out guys!! I am now working for a new brokerage firm making more money and with better benefits so the moral is when one door closes another door opens, if I had never left the first job I would have never had this surgery and I would still be miserable with my job and my life. Take a chance, sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith.
