down 34 lbs.

Sep 28, 2007

Well, I'm probably the slowest loser on the board but that's OK with me.  I eat like a regular person except my meals are alot smaller.  I haven't been exercising and I still eat sweets so it's a big surprize that I loose anything at all.
Another lady in my neighbourhood was banded after me and she's lost 50 lbs.  Hearing that really inspired me so I'm trying harder.  I'll probably get to meet her next week.  Getting fills is a bit of a problem but Dr. Cobourn is working to find a local nurse to do them hear in the city.
Anyway, it's still a thrill trying something on and realizing it's too big.  I have given quite a bit of my wardrob away.  I look forward to hitting my next personal milestone.  Maybe I can to it within one month.

First fill

Jun 10, 2007

I just got back from Fredericton where I had my first fill, in a dental office.  The dentist's wife is a nurse who was being trained by my surgeon, Dr. Cobourn.  I think normally a fill would be an easy thing to get.  The poor nurse had a hard time  finding the place in the port where the fluid goes in.  Unfortunately, she had the needle inserted while she tried to find the opening.  Oh well, it's over and I'm sure she'll get better.  I got 4cc of saline solution.   They gave me a glass of water to drink and I could feel the difference.  I came home and had a small yogurt and 50 cent size of minced pork.  I'm stuffed.
This is going to be so cool.  I am so happy I had the lapband done.  I'm going to clean out my fridge and fill it with things I can enjoy.

Update

May 23, 2007

It's been almost a month since my surgery and I'm feeling fine.  I actually forgot how to get here.  I haven't lost anymore weight and that is disappointing.  My first fill is on June 9 when Dr. Cobourn comes to town to train a nurse to do the fills.  I'm hoping I'll start to lose again after that.
I've returned to work without any problems.  I guess my biggest mistake is getting too hungry when I'm out somewhere then eating something I shouldn't.  Usually I take 3 bites and I'm full but then I want water.  So you can see I'm still learning how to deal with everything.
At least the weather here has turned sunny and I can get out in my garden.  I want to succeed so I'll do what ever I have to.

one week post op

May 04, 2007

Today is one week post op.  I'm feeling great.  I haven't had any pain medication for four days.  I think the most painful part of the healing has been pain in my shoulder from the gas they pump into your abdomin.  They suck it back out but there's always a little that has to be absorbed by your body.  All my insiscions are healed over and itchy.  My weight is down by 20 lbs. since April 13, the day I started the Opti-fast.  Of course, it's not as noticable as I would like but I'm doing this for me and I can see and feel the difference.  Clothes that I had taken in 10 days ago are already baggy.  My husband is getting a big kick watching me shrink.  I keep telling him this dramaticly fast loss is going to stop soon and I'll loose 1 to 2 lbs. a week.  It's all good to me.  I'm so happy I did this.

1 week until surgery

Apr 19, 2007

I've now been on water and Optifast for one week.  I've lost about a pound a day.  I'm not really hungry though, but drinking all that water, yikes, I can hardly get most of it down.
I've told my staff why I'll be out for a bit and they are all supportive.  I'm looking forward to a few days of rest.  My daughters will be home from university and they can run the house while I'm down.
I still have to shop for the things the clinic wants me to bring, like PJs that button up the front.  I usually just wear aT shirt.  I never wear a housecoat .  I just get dressed.  Maybe I can get something at Value Village.  I have a feeling I'll be shopping there while my body shrinks back to normal.  No sense wasting money on a lot of clothes I won't wear for long.
So this is my last week as a big eater, a big eater on water and optifast.  I can hardly wait to head to Ont.
