So, here's my story. I have always been the fat kid. I have been obese almost all of my adult life. I am 43, soon to be 44. I guess my wake up call was getting diagnosed with OSA while having high bp and cholesterol. It scared me and made me look at my body, life and future. It wasn't looking so bright. I am "lightweight" but I don't like that term, I feel far from light. I have been as high as 280# and as low as 180# in the past 5 years. I have done every diet like everyone else here. I was inspired to look at WLS b/c of my sister in law. She had RNY surgery 9/11/12. I see what a positive life change it has made in her world. I know that having WLS will also have a positive impact on my life too. I have a great support system in place and am ready to fully commit to ME. I always put others needs first but now it is time to put ME first. My health matters!!! My biggest challenge now is to keep on track for the next 5 months with dr. supervised weight plan. Gotta do it for insurance. My other dilemma is which surgery RNY or VSG. I was totally sold on RNY. But now doubts are creeping in and saying why RNY? why not VSG? My surgeon said either are appropriate for me. I know it's a personal choice. I would love to connect with other members in NC and around the country to hear about your experiences. Stay posted to see how I progress as my journey has just begun!
