One week post op VSG

Feb 20, 2014

Well it's been a week. I am down 10#. Starting weight 264, surgery weight 255, first week's weight 245. I am amazed. The first place I noticed getting smaller is on my face, getting my cupids bow back! I feel great, a little tired but great. Dermabond came off the first incision yesterday, still holding in 4 spots. Bruising is getting less and less each day. Had dinner out last night. My solution to eating was having a decaf skim latte to sip on while everyone else ate. Food looked delicious but still no sense of hunger. I know I have made the right choice for me. And I feel good about my choice. Going out tonight to see a band. My first night out in a while. I feel confident and excited. I know I have only lost 10# but I feel so much lighter! It is a wonderful feeling.

Keeping up on protein and liquids. I know can't wait to eat normal foods but, I am ok with the liquids. I find warm liquids a great substitute for meal time.

Taking it slow, but am trying to get out daily so that I can walk.

Day 3 Post Sleeve Surgery

Feb 16, 2014

Had surgery on Friday, now it's monday morning. So surprised how good I feel. I have very little pain. What pain I have is more of a dull ache that is manageable with liquid tylenol. I am able to get in 64 oz of H2O and 80 grams of protein. I did have a small bout of nausea yesterday but I pushed too hard taking my morning pills and had to take some zofran. Walking is a huge help- keeps everything moving and helped me with the gas pain I had. Went walking yesterday at BJ's and Target and it felt good to be out. Came home and took a needed nap. Had a visit in the afternoon from my bff to catch up on things. Inlaws came by for a visit and we went out for dinner. Great to be out and be social, I had decaf tea for dinner. I didn't mind watching them eat. It was nice to be with family and be out and about. Came home and had some protein then off to bed by 9:30p. Still need to get on a regular sleep schedule but other than that, things are going well.

Surgery Morning 2/14

Feb 13, 2014

Well the day is here. I am oddly calm and patiently awaiting 5am to get here. Surgery is at 7am. I came up with a pretty good post for this morning~

Happy Valentine's day! Happy Sleeve surgery day to me Have to be at the hospital in 3 hours and surgery is at 7 am. I am calm. which is odd, thought that I would be more nervous. I am looking forward to starting this next chapter of my life. To all those who think surgery is easy, well, it is... The surgeon does all the work today. But, we do all the homework before- forms, diets, paperwork, doctor visits, emotional ups and downs, I could go on... Then the easy part, just lay back and relax and let the surgeon do what he does best... Now comes the Hard Part= the rest of your life. Using that tool that you are given to make your best choices for you! So here I go, starting that new chapter in my life. The one that I focus on me and my health to become the best person that I can be! Thanks everyone here for all of your support and kind words!

Look forward to seeing you on the losers bench!

I am as ready as I am going to be. Did all the prep I can. Took pictures, confirmed with the surgeon, packed a bag and I'm sure I forgot something or maybe not!

I couldn't have gotten this far without the love and support of my husband! He is my best friend and my biggest supporter! I think that he is more nervous than I am. I can't blame him, he is the one who has to do most of the waiting around today. I am also lucky to have my friend Meredith. She has been the voice of reason and my sounding board for the past 7 months through the process to get to this point. I am so thankful to have such great people in my life who are there to go through this journey with me.

See ya later old body. There's gonna be a new one in town soon!

Got my insurance approval

Jan 24, 2014

So happy, got my insurance approval on Wednesday. I go in for pre surgical consult on Monday... They approved me for RNY but I want a Sleeve. My insurance covers both so I guess me and Dr. Tyner will have to discuss. His PA said both would work for me, now it's time to hear from the expert! Insurance coordinator said it shouldn't be a problem changing the type of surgery, let's hope that will hold true. Looks like I am going to be having an exciting February!!!

Waiting for approval

Jan 04, 2014

Well, six months of supervised diet is complete. Now it's time to wait...for insurance. Six months seemed so far away when I started and now it has come and gone. I am excited and apprehensive, who wouldn't be. I just saw a picture that was taken of me today. I am not happy with that person but know that she is ready to change. She doesn't smile as much as she use to... Losing weight won't make me a happy person, I make me a happy person. I know what I need to do to be successful and I need help. I have faith that I am making the right choice for me, VSG.
