Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! The next year is going to be the most amazing of your life. I know that you must feel as anxious and nervous as I did ten months ago. But soon this waiting game will only be a memory and you will be on to your new life. I am 10 months post op and I have lost 130 pounds. I went from a size 24 to a 4 in a little over 6 months. Miracles do and will happen for you. I have tried to keep a profile that can be used as a resource for pre-ops. That answers all of the questions that I had when I was in your shoes. And links to various places to do more of your own research. If you have any questions or just need someone to talk to that understands please feel free to email me. Denise, I am a nurse and while hospitalized as a patient I have used epiderals twice for pain control. PCA's are ok for pain control however epiderals can be placed for pain control to certain extremities. I had a epideral for my WLS and had no residual effects. You can also use demerol in PCA's however it will work on pain control but it will also make you sleepy and narcotics also cause constipation. after my epideral was removed on 2nd day post-op I used Lortab elixir and trust me it is nasty tasting. You may also need to discuss this with your surgeon and anestheologist. I hope this helps with your decision. Tamara
