My weight gain started when I was 12. I was a skinny kid and I played outside everyday. My parents divorced around the time I turned 12 and I think that is when I started emotionally eating. The pounds started to creep on. In high school I think I topped out at about 220. I always was bigger then my friends but not by a lot. I remember feeling hopeless when only plus size clothes would fit me. I didn't really realize the extent of my weight gain until I became an adult and lived on my own. I suddenly was no longer able to fit into every chair and booths at restaurants. I met my husband (who is also obese) when I was 21. Together we ate! That is what we did for fun. Now don't get me wrong we did plenty of other things too. We have a large group of very active and fit friends who keep us busy. We were always the big people in the group. But he loved me for who I was and I him! We are the long standing couple in our group of friends and many look up to us. I decided to start researching weight loss surgery about a year after Bob and I met. I tried to get approved 2 times prior to my actual surgery. Once in 2002 and once in 2007. The first one didn't go very far because my insurance at work had a clause that they wouldn't do weight loss surgeries. My second one I worked for over a year meeting with my Dr and documenting my diet and weight loss and then Blue Cross denied it due to not enough documentation. I was horrified and just gave up. I began eating massive amounts of food and not even caring. I probably put on an additional 50 pounds within 6 months. Then I found out about MMPC. I went to the orientation fully expecting to get the gastric bypass and then up until I met with Dr Foote that is what I intended to do. Well after meeting with him and realizing that the Duodenal Switch would work for me I was sold. I had a God moment when I met him and I knew that this is why it took me so long to get here. I was at peace and not nervous about the surgery at all. Everything went off without a hitch! I am happier today then I was 3 months ago. I can't wait to see what 3 more months will bring!
