Surgery was March 15th and uneventful Thank God!!!

Mar 19, 2011

My Friend and I got to Lenox Hospital at around 9 ish so we walked across the street and came across a Big and Crusty coffee shop where my friend got a cup of coffee and we just people watched for an hour which was relaxing. I checked in at 10:30 and they had me fill out some forms. Once that was taken care of they took me in and started the pre op process. This could have gone better.   The nurse that took care of me was very nice but she was making mistakes left and right which Thank God I was aware of and called her on them.   She  recorded my weight at 100 lbs. less than what I was...., She gave me the heparin shot then proceeded to take my blood pressure right on the same spot  to name a couple things. I spoke with the Pain Doctor and then they took blood and I was told that there was an emergency and that my surgery which was supposed to be at 12:30 was going to be much later . I ended up finally being taken in at 5 p.m. and by that time I was exhausted from stressing out and waiting.  The only saving grace was my good girlfriend showed up and stayed with me those 6 1/2 hours waiting to have surgery.  They had me walk to the OR and get up on the table. People were walking in and introducing themselves which I was not registering and then the mask went on and I was out!! Woke up in recovery and I was feeling a bit groggy and in some pain but nothing like what I expected. That did not last long as the pain eventually set in and I was pushing that pain pump although I only used it for that first night and then once in the early a.m.    When they got me to the room it was a zoo. Bells and whistles going off between me and my roommate that had the VSG also and was extremely nauseous, vomiting every few minutes. I was having issues with my CPap and all the wires that I was connected to and finally got to a point where I was just so exhausted I just passed out for about an hour. That was the longest I slept thru for the rest of the night. I awoke feeling somewhat nauseous and was given the zofrane by IV which helped along with cold compresses.  The next day seemed to get a bit easier and I pretty much just slept, got up and walked and then went back and slept more and repeated this. I was very happy to get out of there on Thursday and to get home. The ride was long and made me very nauseous but it got better after I started to take some liquids in. Thursday I had problems taking in liquids and most of Friday. I probably only took in 8 ounces between Thursday and Friday morning. Finally at lunch time on Friday I decided to have some yogurt to have my meds with and that seemed to go down very well. I have been peeing tons and have lost almost 20 lbs since I weighed myself on Thursday afternoon when I got home. I am trying very hard to get the fluids in to replace that so I do not dehydrate but that is not going so well. I seem to be ok with warm liquids but not cold . I know as everyone says it gets better with time so I am ok with where I am at this point.   Thanks again for all the support. My best wishes go out to all of the March sleevers   Being as tired as I have been I am not coming on as often so I will blanket my wishes for all.
