I have been so bad at updating this site, but I will try. I am a little over 5 months out, and have lost close to 80 lbs. I have gone from a size 20 to a size 8. It is an amazing journey to me.
Even better than that, I am no longer using my CPAP machine, and my blood pressure is once again normal. I have no idea what my other labs are yet, as they retest again at 6 months out.
When I first started researching weight loss surgery, I was very scared. I have several friends who have had surgery and have been so successful, I thought I'd bank on their positive feedback to get me through.
There are times if I eat the wrong thing or don't take small enough bites I get tripped up, but I would safely say that 95% of the time, I feel great. I have lots of energy, I have joined a health club!
This is by far the best gift I could have given myself.

6/18/07 The Countdown......
Jun 19, 2007
I started my preop diet on 6/18/07. I am on optifast, crystal light, water, lettuce with spray dressing, and raw vegetables. Oh, I also had some yummy chicken broth (not). I am doing OK...for the most part, I am not hungry. I sure was crabby last night though. Not sure if it was related or not, but at least I save that for my family and not my co-workers.
I am getting kind of nervous, but it will be all better when I am on the other side. My son is getting married on September 1st - I sure hope I am in condition to have a good time.

Wow - 3 weeks since I was approved, and it still seems unreal. Maybe it will become more "real" as I have my first appointment this Thursday. The bariatric program at the hospital I will be using has been selected as one of six in the nation to conduct research on weight loss surgery, thus they follow patients from pre-op for some time to come. I agreed to participate in this study, and my first appointment is this Thursday.
It still seems a long way to go until July 2nd, but I bet it will go fast (until I get to the liquid diet phase). I have been reading lots about the surgery, and though I am scared, I think I am more scared not to do it.

4/24/07 - APPROVED

OMG, I have been trying to get this for so long I thought it was not going to happen. See "about me" for all the gory details, but on 4/24/07 I was approved for surgery. My date is 7/2/07.
I was hesitant about the date, because July 3rd is the birthday of two of my sons and I will be in the hospital. However, they are not babies, they are young adults. I decided it was the best birthday present I could give them (maybe..ha ha) that I would be around to enjoy them longer.
