I'm Home!!!!

Sep 02, 2011

My surgery went fairly well, but I did have a leak which the dr fixed immediately.  I wasn't allowed to walk the first day because my highest blood pressure reading was 85/34 so I was bolused with a ton of fluid.  I was walking all over the ward the next day, all over the place.  Couldn't eat until the 2nd day because I had to do the barium swallow test to check and see if I was leaking any more, which I was not, another big hooray!

Got home from the hospital around 8 o'clock last night, so glad to be home!  I'm having a bit of difficulty taking in as much liquids as I should, but I have noticed that when I have my meals with the added protein, I am having mega spurts of crazy energy!    I'm making good use of it by hopping on the treadmill at a low speed and endurance walking.
I am still very sore and hoping that will go away soon.  I don't know if its the newness of the surgery or accomplishing my goal or what, but I feel very energized for some reason and I sure hope I stay that way.   I actually feel good!  I'm so glad I did this!!!!!

It's almost here!!!!

Aug 30, 2011

I'm sitting by the phone anxiously awaiting the phone call from the OR nurse with my arrival time for tomorrow's surgery.  I can't believe this is finally happening to me!  I'm mega excited, a little bit scared and I just want today to be over so I can start my journey.  You could say that today I am very impatient.

I went to my last workshop yesterday where they told us for the last time what to be prepared for, they had some post-ops there who were wonderful and answered tons of questions for us!  One gal even brought some great protein bars with her and let us try them.  She said they tasted like snickers bars...I have to admit, I was a little skeptical but when I tasted them, I couldn't believe it!  She was dead-on!    I'm for sure gonna be buying those in the future!

I've lost twice  the required weight for the surgery, but my scale is on the fritz, so unless I magically gained about 55 lbs in the last 10 minutes, I'm still safe on that.  I swear I want to smash that thing into tiny little pieces!!!

I was supposed to take one last nicotine test (I quit on April 3rd)   but the RN I spoke with at my last visit said because the pulmonologist cleared me, I was all set to go to surgery.  YIPPEEEE!!!!!!

I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself, but I can't seem to harness the energy too well.  I'm all over the place today, online, on the treadmill, scrubbing my floors, trying to get in some last minute "deep-cleaning" so that I won't have such a huge mess to clean up when I come home to my fiance and also this will be the first time his family is coming to our apartment (yeah, we're not real close to them)...I sorta wish I could calm down a litte, I feel like I've had like 20 espresso shots!  I just can't wait until tomorrow!!!!!  YAY!!!!!
