"MMC allegedly had a dedicated wing for bariatric recovery. My room was quite comfortable, the bed was larger than normal, and everyone was super-nice and respectful. Not for one minute did I feel judged or "looked down on" because of my weight or any limitatons I have because of it.<p>
However, I was quite concerned with the nursing staff's lack of bariatric surgery issues and circumstances. For example, noone seemed to know what I was and wasn't supposed to eat, and noone was encouraging exercise (we were told prior to surgery that there would practically be someone kicking my butt to get out of bed). In fact, the nurses, in all good faith, encouraged me to rest! I know they meant well, but resting didn't move the gas, if you know what I mean.<p>
Also, pain management was a huge issue...6 hours post-op I had to ask for my pain meds, and then proceeded to wait 1 1/2 hours for it to come. Thanks to my brother for going out and making a ruckus while I layed in bed and cried.<p>
But, I get the feeling that if the nurses were a little more attuned to bariatric stuff, this would be an A+ hospital floor to be in."
"Dr. Borao ROCKS! When I first met him, he was friendly, confident, listened to all my concerns, and was reassuring. I knew then and there that he was the surgeon for me!<p>rnrnHis office staff is quite friendly, and Laura works her tush off to get all the paperwork through...she's amazing!<p>rnrnAftercare is essential, and there is a structured program both pre-and post- operatively. No silly hoops to go through - don't get me wrong, there was alot to do, but it was all necessary, and made me feel completely sure that wls was the way for me to go.<p>rnrnDr. Borao ran into ALOT of trouble when he got inside my torso, but he was a trooper, stuck it out, and cleared up some previous pre-existing issues that we didn't know were there (lots of scar tissue). Probably saved my life. I was surprised that he didn't just take a look inside, say, \"well, this is a little more than we bargained for\", and close me up. Nope. He did it all. I can't tell you (or him) how grateful I am. I can't recommend him enough!"
