I was on my first diet when I was six years old. I am now 46 and ready to take controll of my life with WLS. I have decided to have the lap band because it has so many less complications.
I must admitt I am still not convinced I should just get the gastric and be done with it.
They already had me approved for the gastric but since my husband is not very supportive of my surgery I am taking the safer surgery.

Sept 8- I am patiently waiting for my surgery. My date was supposed to be the 12th but got switched to the 14. My doctor, bless his heart, is very careful and has his patients tested for everything under the sun. These are the following tests I have had to prepare for surgery.

I am so glad he is careful!

Sept. 17, 2006 Hello everyone! I had my surgery on the 14th. I ended up spending an extra night in the hospital. My surgeon found a fatty deposit on my stomach so when he removed that he nicked the stomach a small amount. When he put the band on there was some bleeding which caused terrible pain. I have to tell you that now I feel great.
I think the best advise I could give someone going for the surgery is this: It is serious surgery. You will hurt alot afterwords, but it only lasts about three days. I don't think I was prepared for how much it hurt. The Doctor says it hurt so bad because of the bleeding.

Sept. 25, 2006 I had my post-op appoitment with Dr. Ibrahaim. Everything looks great. I lost 15 lbs. so far. Yay! I can't believe it. It has been hard work but worth it. He told me on Thurs. I can start on mushies. I am already planning my first meal. Eggs, fish, and white sweet potatoes. The only thing I crave since this is healthy food. I am also becoming a real lover of soup. In my old life soup was something that I at as a snack. I would never dream of having soup as a meal unless it involved loads of bread and butter. Oh well I had to learn the hard way.

October 6, 2006 I am three weeks and one day post-op. I have lost another 3 lbs. So, 18lbs. in three weeks. I am sometimes frustrated by some of the people I told. I can tell when everyone sees me they are giving me the "once over" to see how much weight I lost. When my Mother-In-Law called she didn't even say hello before she asked me how much I lost. This is not GASTIC BYPASS, thank you very much. Sorry for venting. I really love my band and love the fact that I am actually learning how to eat again. I had egg drop soup for dinner tonight. I never in my life had soup for dinner. My taste for foods has really changed. I have not started excersizing yet but plan on starting tomorrow. Do far no sliming or PB. Lucky me!

10/12/2006 I am four weeks out of surgery. My life is already getting better. I don't weigh myself at home because I am one of those type of people that would be on the scale three times a day. I know I have lost more weight. Next week when I get my fill I will know what I lost. I went out to dinner last night and had a bowl of soup. I was full. I don't know if I am one of those lucky people who have restriction right away or if it is in my head. Any way it happens, I will take it.

1/3/2007 Well it has been about 3 and a half months since my surgery. I am down 50 lbs. Wow. Who knew? I have alot to still learn about band eating. I still eat much, much too fast. I need to learn how to drink better between meals.

All and all I have done very well. I have only PB'd once.

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Ibrahim Ibrahim, M.D.
Dr. Ibrahim is a very serious, get down to business kind of surgeon. I then went to his seminar and realized what all the hype was about. This is a surgeon that really cares about his patients. He wants communication now and five years later. His nurse is Lana and she is excellent. No question is stupid. What I liked best about their office (which is probably the most sparse office I have ever seen) is that there was no before and after. Dr. Ibrahim does not want anyone to have this surgery if it is for cosmetic reasons. This is a serious surgery and he treats it as such.
