5 months out.

Sep 21, 2007

I weighed in at 270 lbs. this morning. Down 117 lbs. from heaviest, and 88 lbs. since surgery. I couldn't be more pleased with the results.

My confidence level is very high now. I no longer worry about dying before my kids are grown. I'm much more active. I ride my bicycle regularly, and am starting to remodel my house when I get back from a hunting trip to Wyoming (something I've dreamed of for years). My wife and I just returned from a trip to California (which was wonderful) and I just can't seem to find enough hours in the day to do everything I want to. (Before I couldn't wait for bedtime- or a nap.)

It's been a helluva ride, and I'm not there yet.

Weighed in at 295 lbs. this morning. I also did an 8 mile bike ride. Unthinkable 3 months ago. I'm much more active and enjoying life more at the lighter weight. I actually look forward to my work outs again.

Everything's progressing nicely. I'm certainly enjoying the ride.

Jul 06, 2007

July 6, 2007. I weighed in at 299.6 lbs. this morning. The first time I've broke 300 lbs. in quite a few years. What a feeling. I almost squirted a few tears right there on the scale.

2 1/2 months since surgery and I'm off all my medications and under 300 lbs. What a ride.

Halfway.

Jun 23, 2007

I started my journey at 387 miserable pounds. Today I tipped the scales at 308 lbs. Halfway to my goal of 230 lbs. Has the surgery been successful? Absolutely. Is my journey complete? Absolutely NOT.

 Stay tuned.

Two months out. I'm feeling great. I'm learning to eat with my new pouch, and I tolerate ALMOST everything fairly well. I've never tried sugars. No ice cream, cakes, cookies, or sweets. I don't miss them, and I'm just going to go on the assumption that they'll make me sick.

My weight this morning was 310 lbs. Down 48 lbs. since surgery. Down 77 lbs. from my highest. I'm much more active at home and at work. Life is much easier not having to constantly wrestle all that gravity.

I'm losing my weight from the top down. First the face and neck. Then the chest and shoulders. Now my enourmous buttocks are melting, but my belly has slid into my underwear. I'm built like an egg. It'll all work out in the end. I just have to give it time. I think most of my skin will snap back. My belly may be a problem area though.

On the medication front. I'm off my Lantus injections. (Mission accomplish. Surgery successful.) However, the Doc did put me back on my blood pressure meds, half dosage. My readings were creeping up again. I'm confident that after 25 lbs. more lost, I'll be done with them for good.

So far, this surgery is the best thing I've ever done for myself.

21MAY2007 - 1 month post-op

May 21, 2007

Well, I'm down 29 lbs. since surgery. That's almost a pound a day lost. Amazing. The losses are  leveling off now. Averaging 4 to 5 pounds a week. I certainly can't complain about that.

I'm learning to live with my smaller stomach. It takes very little to "fill" me up. However, my head says to keep eating. I don't. I'm learning to listen to the pouch, not the "fat demons" between my ears.

I'm not exercising as much as I should. I do feel better when I do, however. Still struggling to get in everything I need to get done in a day. I'm learning, and adjusting, and tweeking as I go. Eventually, I'll get my arms around this whole process.

Looking forward to the good days to come.

I had my surgery on the 18th, and came home on the 19th. Everything went "best case scenario". No complications. Minimal discomfort. I thank the good Lord above for watching over me, and all that offered prayers in my behalf. Thank you.

Mar 14, 2007

Just recieved "the call". My surgery date is April 18th. I start my pre-surgery diet, April 4th.

So, about 4 1/2 months from orientation to surgery. Not as fast as I'd hoped, but reasonable.

Stay tuned.

Went to the lab at Holland hospital today. They drew 8 vials of blood and took a urine sample. MMPC tells me if the results check out fine I'll be submitted to scheduling for a surgery date. I hope this is my last hurdle.
