A little background...

Dec 19, 2013

Unlike many on here I was a skinny child.  Not just slim or normal, but skinny!  I was the odd one. By the time I was in high school, I was eating everything in sight trying to gain a little weight.  Then, about age 19, while at college, CLICK! I gained over 30 pounds in a year and kept going up.  (In hindsight, Drs say my thyroid probably went crazy, but then reset itself to my current setting.)  I had NO skills on eating cautiously.

Through the next 30 years, I lost and gained, lost and gained. I learned new skills, but never managed to keep the weight off longer than 6 months at a time. I worried what the yo-yo weight was doing to my body.

My husband was 400+ pounds and diabetic and starting to get worse. He had RNY 3 years ago. I had thought that with his restricted diet, I would have a role model and be able to get the weight off and keep it off.  It didn't work that way.

Finally, over the last year, my hips and feet started hurting and I was so embarrassed wearing a bathing suit at my company lake party.  I realized that I was never going to be able to do it myself and my joints were only going to get worse as I got older. I also realized that I needed a solid set of rules and a physical enforcement to them.  Here I am, one month into it and I'm so glad I did it.  This isn't a diet. This is a life change.
