Not sure what kind of a story to tell.  I grew up in a large Catholic family, 10 brothers and 1 sister.  My mom and dad both loved good food and both were excellent in the kitchen.  My mom was pretty obsessive about weight and always told me I was fat.  I know now that I was not fat, but have always thought I was a real tub.  I swam on the swim team, raced as a snow skiier and grew up on horses.   In High School, which is where I fist became aware of weight as a number, I generally weighed between 105 in summer and 115 in winter.  I've had thyroid problems since I was a child, but the doctors then all thought that was "in your head", so no one diagnosed me until I stopped menstruating altogether at 35 and had severe fatigue and hair loss.  I still only weighed about 145 then.  Since moving to OK in 2004 I've gained over 100 lbs.  I've also had several co-morbidities like depression, diabetes and high blood pressure.   I had my left knee repaired, lateral and medial colateral ligaments and anterior cruciate ligament in about 1997 and that was the beginning of the gain for me.  I became much less mobile due to pain and fear of reinjuring the knee and now, as all self fulfilling predictions do, I have a lot of pain and a lack of strength and mobility in that leg.  My left leg is several inchecs smaller than my right one due to atrophy from disuse.

I'm totally fed up with the limitations I have allowed myself to put on me and am now doing what I should have done several years ago.  I'm getting more active and doing whatever I need to to get the weight off and get the co-morbidities to either get under control or disappear all together.  At present I am researching the various surgical options, with the exception of the sleeve which is not covered by my insurance, and invite anyone who'd like to share their story with me to do so.  I'm interested in what your starting weight was, what your motivation to have surgery was (besides just wanting to lose weight), any co-morbidities you'd like to share, processes you went through to get to the point of surgery, difficultiies before, during and after surgery, and how you feel about your decision and lifestyle today.
