7 Weeks out
Jun 29, 2007
We are leaving for Hilton Head Isalnd tomorrow for a week of golf, horseback riding, and beach. It will be a good test to see how I do eating out during this period of time.
I have some problems getting enough fluids and need to concentrate on that, but I am never hungry and need to focus to be sure I eat enough. I never thought I would say that.
I have gone from a 52 inch waist to a 42 inch at this time and they are getting loose. I have gone from a XXXL to a large. It is a real joy to buy clothes off the rack at the stores and have them fit.
First Post Surgery Update
May 10, 2007
Well, I am 9 days out and feeling great. I am down to 248 already. I will see Dr. V. next Monday and hope I can move on to pureed food. It will defintely be better when I can add taste and flavor to my daily nurition. Before long I can work on texture. This has been some trip already. My wife, Chris, and my children and their families have been great supports. I can never thank them enough.
Approval and date for Surgery.

Post Easter
Apr 13, 2007
I did have a great Easter. My oldest daughter drove down from Pittsburgh with her husband and her two little girls. They are the cutest girls in the world. I know that I am somewhat prejudiced on this. They are the two dressed in red inmy photos. The picture was taken last Christmas.
We got to golf on Friday and Saturday. We had Easter dinner at my wife's sisters house and it was a good time. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was not stressed out waiting for a response from the insurance.

End of 06
Dec 30, 2006
The year ends with Saddam being hanged, a fair minded president, something we could hope for in 08, passing on, and James Brown leaving in a golden casket.
My insurance approval is on hold. BC/BS wants documented proof of 6 months of diet and exercise under a doctors care. I began with the nutritionist and physiologist in Dr. V.s office in October of 06. I hope these count towards the goal. I have kept up the listing of what I ate and my workouts since then. Dr. V.s staff is tgrying to have these count so that I do not have to start all over with this. I hope that these will be accepted so that the surgery will not be delayed too long.
The Holiday Season
Dec 20, 2006
We will leave for Pittsburgh tomorrow and have the service for him on Friday. We will be staying with my oldest daughter Kathie. After the service we will begin to ramp up for what is expected to be, a great Christmas Eve at her house with all three of my kids, 7 grandchildren and my nephews and nieces.
This will be tough on my wife, but she is great and will get through all of this. We did not send out cards since we were out of town and very busy. Next year we will pick up where we left off.
By the way, my first submission to the insurance company was turned down. They wanted documentation of six months of a supervised diet program. My personal physician and the surgeon are in the process of trying to have that waived based on hteir knowledge of how hard I have beeb trying to lose weight since October.
Thanksgiving
Nov 27, 2006
This year Chris (my wife) and I had a wonderful time. We were invited to share a Thanksgiving Meal with friends of ours who moved down here to Charlotte this summer. They had no relatives coming down from Pittsburgh, our home town. They also did not have enough time off work to make the trip north.
We had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner which was wonderful. Bloody Marys were excellant and so was the choice of wine.
This is probably my last dinner like this since I am waiting for my insurance approval and hope to have surgery in January.
The day was wonderful with a complete sense of what we all should be thankful for. I prayed for all of us who are involved in WLS. And of course, I prayed for all Americans serving our country here and abroad. We owe them so much for their patriotism and strength.

Veterans Day
Nov 11, 2006
If your spouse is a vet do something special for him or her today.
I know that I will offer my prayers today for all of the vets who served, now and in the past.
