May 22 2008 "The Big Day"
Jun 04, 2008
I headed up to the hospital about 4:00 am. I was feeling a little nervous at the time, but since I had nearly 1 1/2 hr drive i was able to relax and sleep for a little bit, With my hubby and daughter in tow..I think helped me to relax
I arrived at Humber Reional Hospital around 6:00am just in time to register. after I stepped off the elevator on the fifth floor, I felt as though my heart was in my throat probley beacuse of nerves or perhaps sheer excitement. I was suprised at how quickly I was was registered, and before I knew it I was getting dressed into those wonderful hospital gowns, and excited that they fit, I felt pretty comfy. I was off to the inpatient waiting room to wait with my family. My hubby and daughter quickly scooted back to the car to get some colouring books. In the meantime they called me in to the hallway with other patients also having surgery that day. I felt myself starting to tear, I thought I was going to miss them, but just before going downststairs they turned the corner.. what a relief.
After a quick goodbye I was escorted down to the surgery waiting room, (btw you are allowed to take 1 person to the surgical waiting room with you. I wasn't aware of this and I wish my hubby could have sat with me ) However i did meet another girl having the same procedure, i told her about OH. ( she came to visit me I forgot to ask her what her name was I went to drop off some info so she could contact me.. but the day of my release I couldnt find her :(
Back to the Surgery
I was called to go to the OR about 8:20 am, when I got there i was introduced to all the nurses.. I was okay until i laid down on the table then i started to get realy nervous, I had a hard time relaxing my hand for the IV. I was given something to help me relax.. I stayed awake maybe 3 minutes if that and the next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room it was nearly 1:40.. my how time flies..The pain was managable, mind you I probley had morphine(sp) except my back was really sore.. about 20 minutes later I was wheeled up to the 5th floor. I was was lucky i got a semi private room :) The hospital stay way okay, i had 3 great nurses, and the rest were very poor.
Dr Starr came to my room, he said everything had went routine during the surgery .
I couldnt wait to go home I was able to come home Saturday at 3pm I was a little sore on the ride home.. all the bumps in the road didn't help.

I have been on Optifast almost a week, and if my scale is right I am down 14 pounds as of yesterday. I am doing okay... the vanilla shakes are not my favourite..but with the advice of others( thanks andreaoe) it has been alot easier. It was suggested to me to get a magic bullet and mix the optifast with crused ice... Maybe i am getting numb to it, but I am surviving. :)
I have been only having shakes and Iced Tea that I made myself and lots of water everyday( about 2400 ml) and I take a walk with my hubby about 2-2.5 kms a day.
Less than 3 weeks to go before my Surgery

I have recently went to pick up my Optifast, and had pre screening done at the hospital, by the end of the day I felt exhausted and over whemled. I have a few days before I start Optifast I am wondering if there is a particular food I feel I need to have before I start the diet.. I have thought about it today and so far nothing has came to mind... maybe that is a good thing. My hubby also decided to go on a protein shake while I am on Optifast to help support me through that time, He is very sweet and very interested in helping me on my journey
