High Alert! 198 lbs!

Nov 01, 2011

For Documentation Purposes:

Was 198 lbs when I jumped on the scale today.  Haven't been 198 in probably two years...... since I was in the loosing phase.  But did manage to fall back to 195 tonight after a good workout.  However, needless to say, I am on high alert.  Today was an eye opener.  Starting to reassess consumption habit.  Need to tone down the carbs a bit, look at the exercise routine and make adjustments.

These days

Averaging:  191-194
High:  195-196

Motivation Level:  Can't be charted!!!!!

Turned Up The Intensity: Tabata!

Aug 21, 2011

My fitnes routine had been weight training 3 times per week and cardio 3 times per week.  That normally equates to 6 days per week, if I stay on schedule.  If I miss one day, then I had to double up the next day or do a morning workout AND an evening workout on the same day.  It was getting harder to maintain a six time per week schedule.

This month I have been trying an alternate schedule.  I cut the schedule in half, down to three days per week.  Three days of weight training.  At the end of each session, I conduct the Tabata protocol.  It is a condensed high intensity interval training (HIIT).  For more info, Google Tabata.  Instead of spending an hour per cardio session, my cardio is now 4 mins.  Yeah, I agree, it does sound too good to be true.  I've conducted much research and have made the decision to proceed.  I will give it the rest of this month and perhaps next month to see how things go.

Tabata is basically 20 seconds intervals of kick ass ballz to the wallz movements that use your large muscle groups (thighs, back, hips, ass etc), then 10 second breaks until 4 minutes is reached.  Front squats are perfect.  I conduct kettle bell swings using the 40 lb bell.  In order for it to work, you HAVE to really push through with MAX intensity and speed for the entire 20 seconds.  I focus on those two words during each 20 second movement.  There are even several iPhone and Android timer aps to help keep up with the intervals.  At the end of the four mins, I'm bent over in a near fetal position.  To get a true appreciation, do a Youtube search (Tabata kettlebell).

Stay Motivated!!

Two Years Out!!

Apr 17, 2011

Two years out have come and gone. I had a chance to sit and reflect....Reflect on what things would be like NOW had I not had the surgery.  My diabetes A1C was at 11.  My doctors had told me it needed to be below 7.  My blood pressure was out of control.  My triglycerides were unreadable.  My sleep apnea was causing all sorts of problems.  I was JACKED up.

Things are great now.  I average about 5-6 lbs above my goal weight.  My lowest was about 11 lbs below.  I'm not sweating it.  I feel good at my current weight.

Still hit the gym 6 TIMES per week, as oppossed to 6 DAYS per week.  I get in 3 cardio sessions and 3 weight sessions.  My eating plan is mostly a modified Adkins diet.  I try to low carb during the week, especially at work.  When I do, I feel great.  When I indulge in simple carbs, I feel like shit!!  I get bloaty, gassy, uncomfortable, lazy etc.  So, I try to only consume that in moderation.  Key word is TRY!!

Below are a few pics to document the two year mark.  Hopefully they improve within the next two years!!  Stay MOTIVATED!!!!!

Routine Update

Jun 28, 2010

All is fine.  Ran on the street this morning.  Thinking I might start doing this every morning at least for a couple weeks or so.  It's just so much easier and quicker to get up at 0500, throw on my shoes and run around the block for 20-30 minutes, come back home and do my 3 S's (sh*t, shower and shave) and go to work.  Going to the gym for cardio takes so much longer, plus extra gas, plus I don't have time to do anything else after work.

But anyway, things are going great otherwise.  Weight these days range from 183-189 (within a day).  Bloatiness is not as bad as it was a few months ago, thankfully.  Gas still bad at times.  Still haven't nailed down everything that causes it.  Sometimes my protein shakes will cause it; sometimes not.

Still considering a TT.  Sometimes looks like I need one; sometimes not.  Wifey is strictly against it, saying I don't need it.  I'm happy about the loss but would like to be able to take the ole shirt off outside.  I got it "on hold" for this year but will reopen the subject next year.

Went to my crazy PCM last week.  My labs from my physical at work indicated slightly elevated liver levels.  PCM took blood for tests plus wants me to do imaging to see if there is fatty tissue around the liver.  I'm thinking why not wait till the blood result returns before giving me this expensive imaging requirement.  Plus I asked him to change my blood pressure prescription to a generic and he refused indicating there are side effects.  BS!!  My blood pressure meds are $27 per month currently and I could be paying as low as $4 or $5 per month.  Plus, his support staff is the absolute PITS!!  They are all women and good looking women....(okay that's one of the initial reasons he became my PCM).  But attitude runs rampant in that office.  Plus, I have to remind him of things every time I visit.  I have to remind him I'm a bariatric patient.  I tell him I have a malabsorption issue.  He's like "who diagnosed you with malabsorption?".  I'm like, it's a condition of my WLS.  So, I'm thinking about changing PCM's.

But, looks like I'm venting more than updating.  Overall, things are good.  Ready for our FIRST EVER vacation next month!!!!!!

Critical Point!!

Jun 10, 2010

The past few days I've been hovering at goal plus/minus a pound or two.  This is after several months of enjoying a few pounds of "cushion" below goal.  I think (no I know) why.  On the way to correcting the issue.  I've reached my critical point and am taking action.  I've been high at least once before I think.  It took about a day or two and I dropped back down.  Just about a week ago, I was 182...hmmmm.

So this weekend, cutting the lemonade and other sugary drinks.  Expecting to drop six pounds in the next few days.  Clothes still fit well and loose, so that's a plus.  But I've gotten used to that cushion and want it back...

Threw Up Today!!

May 30, 2010

Twice.  Went to movies and got a hotdog with chili.  Didn't sit well at all.  Threw that up.  Few hours later, got home and grilled some beef ribs and chicken legs.  Ate a few pieces of a rib and a couple bites of the chicken leg.  Felt like rocks sitting in the tummy.  About half hour later...threw up again.

Haven't thrown up in months.  Don't know what's going on today.  Can't seem to hold down any protein.  Can eat everything else but meat is a problem for some reason.  No other issues to speak of.  No pains.  Oh well, I'll knock out a protein drink before bed and try meat again tomorrow.

Lesson Learned: Gas/Treadmill

May 25, 2010

Don't EVER get on the treadmill with gas in the tummy again.  EVER!!!!!

Felt like rubber mallets bouncing around in my tummy with every step.  Could feel the gas building up before getting on the TM but thought I could do a quick 30 minutes before it got bad.  Nope!!!

The runners beside me do not know the enormous favor I bestowed upon them by holding it in.  I could have RIPPED a long deadly one and cleared the entire row of TM's out.  GEESH!!!

Stone is Gone

May 24, 2010

Finally passed my kidney stone last night.  When I saw it, I'm thinking this little piece of sh*t was what was causing me that horrible pain two weeks ago and was causing these painful urination episodes????  Anyway, didn't feel anything when it passed last night and almost missed the little sucker.  Although I did feel an odd isolated really quick shooting pain a couple hours prior and didn't think anything of it.  I surmise it must have been the stone entering the  inner part of the urethra.

So, the quick sharp pain and then 2 hours later, the stone.  Yep, two hours sounds about the right amount of time it would take to travel from end to end (at full speed).  Long journey...(pauses for effect)......

Anyway, I'm happy now.  That's out of the way (literally).  Now, working to prevent it from happening again.
