Almost 2.5 years later........

Mar 14, 2011

Wow...this journey has been amazing.  Since I reached my goal weight in one year, I set myself a 5-10 pound window to stay in between.  I like to stay anywhere between 147-155.  Don't ask me why, but i just know where I'm comfortable and I think my body knows as well.  It is a daily battle for me.  It is definately all about food choices.

My main problem is that I find myself getting hungry about 1.5 hours after I eat a full meal.  I guess this is because the pouch is empty again.  At that point, it gets harder and harder for me not to eat, but somehow I do it.

If I choose to eat, I choose the RIGHT foods.  I eat almonds or peanuts as a snack.  I have even found that a few small pieces of chicken strips might help.  I guess I justify the snacking by choosing high-protein snacks.

My lower legs swell almost every day so I am on a water pill for that.  I had this problem before surery and thought surgery would help BUT even with them swelling now, they are still smaller than they were before surgery..HA! HA!

Other than those couple of small things, I am doing great!

I am a member of a support group in my town.  I lead the group when our regular leader has to work.  I love this group and let me encourage all of you who havent joined a support group to do so.  It is an extended family for me. They help me so much!  It helps me to help them!  In an odd way, it is sort of an accountability group too!

If I can be of help to anyone or if you have any suggestions for me and my "problems", I'd love to hear form you.

Best Regards,
Edie

Today is my 1 year Surgiversary....Go ME!!!

Sep 23, 2009

I can not believe it has been a year but on the other hand, it seems like it has been longer!!  I have experienced so much during the last 365 days, I dont have enough space to put it in my blog!!

I have lost a total of 185# today exactly!!!  I started in a size 3-4x shirts, size 28-30 pants and today I am in  medium shirt and a size 8 pants!!  Dr Dyer told me from the beginning that he didnt want me weighing less than 150-155 and I weigh 152#!!!

I can not tell you how much this has changed my life!  I am sitting and getting myself into positions that I never imagined possible.

I am still having the same cravings for food, temptations for food and love for food BUT I also have the determination NEVER to look the way I did ever again.  I have come too far and been through too much to NOT be a success.

I am excited to see what the next year hold for me.  As far as weight loss, I am satisfied with where I am so the challange is to maintain my weight.

I have to remember that I AM IN CHARGE OF MY SUCCESS!!

Almost 7 months post RNY

Apr 07, 2009

Well, I've now lost 135.8# and I am so proud of myself!!

People that I haven't seen in a while can't believe it's really me.

I've had a few bumps in the road though....In early March I went to the ER with severe abdominal pains.  I was afraid that after 5 months and NO complications, I had an obstruction.  Well tests showed that I didnt but there really wasnt any explaination for the pain either.  I have had two more episodes since then.  One a couple of weeks ago that didnt last and then last night.  The one last night stopped as quick as it started.  It came back today around noon and lasted until about 9pm.  The pain is undescribable!!!  It hurts so bad that you cant stand up straight....it almost feels like a rubberband is in my stomach pulling me forward.  After taking Gas-x chewables, the pain still was there.  I finally laid on the bed around 8pm and eventually my stomach made a weird movement and the pain subsided.

I looked over all the foods that I have been eating and nothing had changed.  I had been on the same diet for 6 months post op and have NEVER cheated!.  I did just recently add lettuce to my diet per the dieticians permission at my last doctors appt ( 3/24/09).  I have been eating a small salad every day since then with no problems....so why would it effect me now?  I'm just going to lay off of the lettuce for a while and see if it calms down.

Other than that, I am good!  I am very satisfied with my progress so far.  I have been told that it slows down after 6 months and I'm not real happy about that but I have to realize that I have come a long way already!!

Almost 5 months later......

Feb 16, 2009

First off, I feel like an idiot for not being out here any sooner

I am one week away from 5 months post-op and I have lost 109.4#!!!!  I am so excited, it has not been easy, especailly  through the holidays but I am determined not to be a failure!  I have followed my doctors food list to the letter.  I just recently discovered mustard on the list and I am so excited!  crazy isn't it?? The small things seem so big!

I never realized the small items of food that others take for granted that we cant have....for example, POPCORN, NUTS or SALAD.  I crave these three things like crazy but I DO NOT cheat!!  I dont even chew gum because my doctor suggested that I don't.  I think sometimes if I could have been this disciplined before surgery, I would've never got in the shape ( or out of shape) like I did!!  I still have not dumped because I am scared to death of it! The stories I have heard about it are awful!

Anyway, I love the Wiifit and do it 3-4 days a week.  I have to say that it has helped me sooo much and I would suggest anyone get this because you can do things at your own pace and it keeps good track of your weight loss and your BMI!!

I told myself that once my skin gets to where it is going to land...HA!.....I am going to get a tattoo.  I am thinking about getting the WLS ribbon with my surgery date on it..ummm..we'll see!

Three weeks ago I put on a pair of Levi's that I have not had on in about 6 years.  I put them on again this weekend and they were gappy on me.  I could still wear them but they were much more loose that they used to be!!  I have been this size before but at this point, I only have about 46 pounds to go until I am the sixe I was when I graduated high school! WHOO HOO!!

Good luck to everyone and to those of you of thinking of having the surgery...do it!!  I cant tell you how much it has changed my life so far!

I will try to get back on here as soon as I can.
