Two Week Follow-Up Appointment

Oct 27, 2010

Well So Far So Good !!!  Had my two week follow-up appointment this morning and seems all is good !!..  Best part is I was advanced to pureed foods..         Am glad to say that I have had no issues with pain or discomfort..   Have not had any episodes of nausea as well...   And last..    No sign of complication or hernia's....

Starting on the pureed food was quite a change from the soft liquids... and was very welcome..    With the soft liquids..  I never had a moment were I actually had a full feeling..  Actually I never really felt like I had anything in my pouch...     My first pureed meal was Tuna and crackers...       I was not sure how much I would be able to eat...   But My doctor had recommended that I eat 3oz  of protein at least...   I looked at the can of Tuna and seen that it was 5oz.   Hmmm    more than 3oz..  But recalling how easy it was to eat 4oz of soup or pudding etc..  I was curious..      Well..   As I started in on the tuna..    And eating mindfully..   Slow, small bites etc..   I wasnt really feeling full yet.   Well about 25 minutes later and about 2oz in..     I was chewing on a bite and then there it was..   I was FULL..  LOL   I decided I didnt even want to swallow the bite I was chewing..    There couldnt have been any room...   If anything I was almost uncomfortably full..

Home from Surgery

Oct 15, 2010

Surgery went fine on Wednesday..     Spent the night in the hopsital and went home the next evening on Thursday..      Glad to say that it went smoothly without complications and far less pain than I had expected..    I also havnt had any real nasuea       I havnt really had much feedback yet from the pouch...    I have not experianced any signs of hunger whatsoever...       When i was finally allowed to eat..    I ate the tinest of bites.. and it took me like 40 minutes to take in 3-4 ounces of the jello and strained soup they served..   I finally had a feeling of not wanting to eat anymore..  so I stopped..     I never felt any feelings of fullness or stretching..  I just didnt feel I needed to eat anymore..      I explained this to the nutritionist after a my second meal and was told that was good..   And that its normal to not have any feeling of hunger..   Soooo Cool

Well when I went home last night, I had a couple extra pills to take...      As If I needed more pills LOL    I sorta got off to a bad start though with them this morning and thank goodness the pharmacy called later on to see how I was doing with them..    But what I did was I woke up and immediatly started taking my vitamins..   Empty stomach mind you...  Well I started by taking my blood pressure pills and the new gall bladder and previcid pills..    I took em all in whole form...      Then I took all my vitamins..     in thier whole horse pill form.. and took each one with a tiny sip of water...     well...     I could feel em like they were sitting in my chest...      I had just took the last one   and decided I would start sipping water until it felt like they were gone...    It took almost 2 hours for them to disolve...      So I had to postpone my breakfast...         When the pharmacy called..   they said next time..    Eat breakfast first to get the stomach working and then break up the vitamins...    It will be much easier on the stomach =)        I have since been able to eat about 4 ounces of screened veggie beef soup and have been sipping on my protien shake...      m also sipping on my water..  seems like im sipping water or broth non stop right now LOL       As I expected..  This will be a lifestyle change indeed !!        Im still feeling good and positive towards the future =)

The Pre-Op Appointment

Oct 05, 2010

Well, The Pre-Op appointment has happened....      Was a bit more simple than I had expected..   I think since I have read my Gastric Bypass Binder cover to cover a couple times, that everything they said was pretty much already known...    I also had to undergo a EKG and get my lab work done..   And still so far seems all is good...        As for weight..   It went ok.  BUT..  I might have made a little mistake LOL     Well..   Per my surgeon, I must weigh no more than 265 pounds when they perform the surgery...   On the morning of the appointment, I weighed 262 pounds...     However since this appointment was in the late afternoon, I know that my weight trend is that I gain a couple pounds by the evening..  (from meals, water etc)... so I decided to skips meals and held back on fluid intake to only when thirsty...  Welllll...    By the time I got off work and out to the doctors office, My weight had dropped to 260.6 pounds..       The Surgeon is pleased with that.. However..    It was much less than needed..  so NOW...  I have to maintain that weight LOL      Surgery is next week so it wont be toooo much work I hope =)      Another good thing about the appointment...       Since I live about an hour and a half drive to the hospital..   I was able to get registered with the admitting department.. and even pre-paid my co-pays...   (Ouch)      Doctor said that I should undergo my surgery at about 8:30am on Wednesday the 13th and he suspects that I can go home on the evening of Thursday the 14th...   Well..  that's where I am for now...      I'm feeling pretty good about this and of course I am a little nervous..   But I keep my mind focused on the rewards down the road after the surgery ! =)

Coming soon.. The New Ed !!!

Sep 25, 2010

Well..    Here is a start...       Its all coming together now...     Ive been really suprised at how fast this has been going..   This approach to Wieght Loss Surgery started about 3 months ago..  I was 295 lbs..  I asked my Doctor about the WLS and she was very supportive...     I was referred to a weight loss class and WLS overview.. I attended and then was contacted by the Bariatric Surgeons office..   I was scheduled very soon after for the WLS orientation and then a one on one with my Surgeon and Phsych Eval...    Glad to say that I was deemed very fit and competent for the surgery LOL...    I was tasked with losing 10% of my wieght as a gateway to preparing,.,        Well..      For the last 2 1/2 months..   Ive been good and have been maintaining a 1200 calorie a day diet....    Ive been practicing the disciplines of eating "mindfully"    chewing the heck outa my meals etc..  Ive even been taking an outrageous amount of vitamins LOL    All of which are what the doctor recommended.. and at the proper dosages..        Well..    Earlier this week I went in and weighed in and I was at 264 pounds..   I was actually in surplus of a pound of weight loss above what the surgeon required LOL        Soooo..    I contacted my surgeons office and gave them my update...   I was called the next day and offered a surgery date of October 13th...   I took it !!       So now, I am scheduled to go back to the surgeon on the 1st and start my pre-op appointments...      Im eager and yet nervous...     This will be a HUGE change..   But I remind myself that this will be better than staying HUGE me !!! LOL      I know a good deal of people now who have undergone the RNY surgery (What I will be having)  and all have told me that at first.. its miserable...   Had thoughts of WTH did they do to themselves...   Thoughts of regrets!!     But after about 2 months..  The tides turned and they started to see rewards..     Now they all tell me that the surgery was the best thing that ever happened to them !!     Well I am and always will be an optomist...       I am ready to take on the bad to receive the good..      I will do this!!
