Switched and HOme

Aug 14, 2010

Tuesday the 10th was the big day and yesterday I was released and finally home. We left Tuesday morning at 3:30am for the hospital in Nashville. My husband was so nervous but I was feeling pretty good about what was to come. We arrived at the check in desk at 6am and was called back to the room at 645. David was able to come with me so that helped me and him emtionally. Here I was changed into the gown and asked lots of questions. Then we waited until the surgery holding area was ready for me at about 730. This is when David had to go to the waiting area and I was wheeled back to meet the Anes., nurses, and the Dr. I was given my IV and asked more questions. At 750 they said we were ready to go and I was then wheeled into the surgery room. I moved from one bed to the surgery bed easily and the next thing I remember is the oxygen mask being put on my face and I was out until I woke up in recovery. I found that joking with the nurses and drs. helped me not be so nervous about what was going to happen. They did end up finding a hernia which I had no idea I had, go figure. I was moved to my room at 1230 where David was waiting for me. The rest of this day consisted of me pushing my green morphine button and sleeping. I did have to walk one time which was torture and getting back into bed was painful but I made it through. I stayed 3 days and spent most of my time trying to get down liquids, walking, and sleeping. Friday I was released and we arrived home about 3pm. Dr. Houston wanted to keep me another day and hook me to an IV because I'm having trouble getting liquids down but I'm working on it. Yesterday I got 44 oz down and today I'm only at 16. This is really hard. Well my appt with the dr is on Thursday and I hope I get to move to shakes. I'm sick of this clear liquid diet. ugh
